Mon 7th Oct 2019 - bring a bottle to the Boot & Flogger

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Five of us were able to get together at the Boot & Flogger last night to share some Port and good company. The Ports we drank were:
  1. Dow 1963, bottled by Carl Jacobsen of Copenhagen
  2. Niepoort 1980
  3. Kopke 1944, bottled 1981
  4. Smith Woodhouse 1983
  5. Smith Woodhouse 1970
  6. Taylor Vargellas 1986
The highlight of the evening being that no-one scored any points for Shipper or Vintage, and that two of the five monkeys managed to score one point.

Wine of the night scores were:
9½ points to Dow 1963
6 points to Niepoort 1980
5 points to Kopke 1944, bottled 1981
4½ points to Smith Woodhouse 1970
3 points to Smith Woodhouse 1983
2 points to Taylor Vargellas 1986

Thank you everyone who was able to make it for the company and the fabulous wines — I particularly enjoyed the Niepoort 1980, my first time trying this Port.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Great port consumed with great people. May I add my thanks for making my guest so welcome - she had a jolly good time and reports "feeling surprisingly okay today"
