2018 Quinta da Devesa

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A lovely dark purple colour with a narrow rim, looking like crushed blackcurrant juice. Fresh cut grass on the nose, very herbaceous but not in an unattractive manner. Sweet blackcurrant fruit entry and one of the biggest tannin loads I've experienced in young Vintage Port - yet massive tannins which are wrapped in the most wonderful sweet and ripe fruit. The fruit is sweet, dense and packed with vigorous tannins yet mages to display some wonderful floral tones. The flora perfume rides a wave of power on the aftertaste, with the sweet blackcurrant fruit fighting the dark chocolate tannins for an aeon on the finish. While this is a joy to drink today, this will mature to be a stunning Port. 95/100. Tasted 10-Apr-21.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
