1963 Croft

Post by winesecretary »

Consumed 8 April 2021.

Notable for three things.

(a) Pop and pour. On this showing (from a splendid level bottle) this wine needs no time at all. Zilch. Nil. Nada.

(b) 30% opacity, rich red. Mature red fruit on nose. Completely resolved in mouth. Red fruits, perhaps just a hint of the Croft orange. Not hugely long.

(c) [If you get a good bottle, and we got a good bottle] Absolutely delicious. Three of us inhaled it in about 45 minutes flat, and it was a (very) long way from being the first bottle of the evening.

This was not my bottle. I am extremely grateful to the person who showed it. But this was more virile ten years ago. YMMV, but for me, drink up. I have one bottle left, of two cases purchased over the past twenty years, and on this showing I will drink it this year rather than keeping it for its sixtieth birthday.
