Reconfirming. I have Dow and could access Vesuvio if needed but I'll need time to get that delivered from Seckford if so.

Re: RESCHEDULED: Wed 11 May 2022 - Quevedo Closure Experiment and Bring a Bottle to Share with Oscar

Are we still planning on going ahead with this without Oscar? I'm just trying to work out plans for the next couple of months and when I should aim to be in London!

<Edit> I have just realised I'll need to be in Bristol this week so I cannot make it either way.

Smells odd but tastes fine. Peppery, red fruits. Chocolate. A touch sour. Ok

This isn't right - the nose is bad; raisins and rubber. Not rated.

Dry but with a lot less fruit to it than its predecessors. Very dry - muscular. Maybe a little too much for my tastes. Good.

Very fruity. Some tannic grip not not a lot. Quite simple but enjoyable. Good

Re: 1989 Churchill Fojo

Similarly fruity to the 87 but with some dryness to even things out. A slight rubber note that burned off (thankfully). Strawberries and toffee. Good.

Re: 1986 Churchill Fojo

A touch sour initially. Sweetness to offset it but not entirely pleasant. Going back, the sourness has disappeared, now the sweetness is honey and toffee with strawberries. V good.

Re: 1984 Churchill Fojo

Similar to the 82, but less refined. Red berries and a touch of eucalyptus, some orange citrus acidity. Slightly unbalanced for my tastes but still enjoyable. Nice.

This is lovely! Big fruits and tannins hitting at the same time on the palate. Quite a long finish with a touch of eucalyptus. V good.

Re: 2000 Churchill

Fruity initially (red cherries), but that's flooded with pepper and tannic grip - seems very young. Not a long finish. Good.

Red and black cherry fruits. Plenty of tannic grip. Liquorice. Maybe somewhat closed. Good.

Nice. Well balanced between the fruit (red cherries) and tannic grip. Still rather young. Dark chocolate. V good.

Re: 1991 Churchill

Red fruits and raisins here but with a lot more drying tannic grip. This feels quite grown up compared to the pre-90 wines, and I like it - good depth and plenty going on. V good.

Re: 1985 Churchill

This is lovely. Similar in style to the 82 but much less sweet. Red fruit, dry and quite spirity but not in an unpleasant way. Milk chocolate and strawberry with a citrus acidity. A long finish. Excellent.

Red berries on the nose. Punchy liquorice followed by heather honey and redcurrants. Mint. The honey follows through into the long finish. V good.

Gents, work is ramping up at the moment, which is unfortunately at odds with plans to take days off to come up to London. I'm going to have to drop out of this one, but if things become calmer I may be able to join late on if there are any last minute cancellations. My apologies. Please promote Dave...

Re: Churchill Tasting, 1st March 2022

I'd like to add my thanks to both Neil for organising and to the Churchill Graham's for attending and providing some great insights into the ports we were drinking. Really enjoyed the evolution of the various ports particularly the shift from the 80s into the 90s. And yes, I made it onto my coach! H...

Re: Post-2000s ports for the future

Welcome! As a fellow uninformed enthusiast who is also young enough to hopefully take advantage of ports that have been released this side of the millennium I've been focused on a mix of VP and SQVP (which will hopefully provide joy sooner). You'll probably already be aware of the hype surrounding 2...

Re: Churchill Tasting, 1st March 2022

Confirming. I still have the ChG05 and ChG09, but provided costs aren't prohibitive I could adopt if we'd prefer to stick to full VP.
