I shall confirm tomorrow (being away at the minute), but I believe that I still have both to hand. More anon.

Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022

Flash, Harry, Will - may I invite your suggestions as to what you might bring? As of November, I had Ferreira, Ramos Pinto, Graham, Fonseca, Infantado, Pocas Junior, Burmester, Calem, Borges (to my shame), Taylor, Rebello Valente, Niepoort, Gould Campbell and Kopke Sao Luiz. What would you like me ...

Re: BBR capsule colours

Rebello Valente 70 was likewise covered by BBR in pink/salmon; I opened a bottle of it earlier this week. It seems that pink was BBR's preferred colour that year - which supposedly made sense in the context of the ludicrous fashion then prevailing - though I do note that Phil's link points likewise ...

Re: 1997 @ 25, POSTPONED @ B&F

Will - could we go for Burmester and Sandeman Vau? If you're in London anyway, are you coming to the alternative event? Of course; I shall bring both on the 20th, along with the very old tawny. Alas, I shall miss the alternative event beyond dropping off the bottles at the B&F. I can leave them...

Re: 1997 @ 25, POSTPONED @ B&F

A few people have expressed a preference to delay the 1997 tasting, and this combined with the fact that I’m sure someone else will actually drop out, makes it likely that we’ll end up a bit short-handed. As such, I’m going to postpone. I’ll advise of a new date shortly. However, as per Alex’s sugg...

The bottle for America is now on the way to Seattle from Porto. I will bring the other one to London on the 20th. The 1997 tasting is cancelled I see, though I shall get it to the fellows who are meeting nonetheless for supper.

Re: Offer of Very Old Tawny Port in Bulk

I’d be interested. But here’s the thing. There is a lot of these family tawnys around the Douro. Most are pleasant but not great and not worth a ton of money. Tread carefully. I could not agree more. Hence, the various discussions about the necessity of getting one bottle to London and another to S...

Okay lads, here's my suggestion: I will join the online drinks tonight at +/- 2000 GMT; Mike has very kindly just sent me the link. Offer of Very Old Tawny Port in Bulk

I present the following for the consideration of TFP members, hastening to add that I have no fiduciary interest in the matter which follows. In a round-about way, I came into contact recently with a family of growers who are looking to offload up to 300 bottles of old tawny in bulk. Said family has...

Re: Searching for Tawny Value for Money in Portugal

Great writing. And so much more in the style of André Simon than of Robert Parker — is that intentional? Thanks so much Julian. In answer to your question: yes. My interests are far too eclectic and my wine knowledge much too weak to emulate the evaluative style popularised by Parker and Broadbent,...

Searching for Tawny Value for Money in Portugal

The Problem Quality vintage ports and tawnies are priced in Portugal at a premium; that is, at prices oftentimes well beyond the tariffs commanded in the United Kingdom and, most especially, in the Low Countries and parts of northern Europe. The Portuguese pricing reflects the fact that the highest...
