Re: NV Taylor 50YO (bottled 2022)
Taylor’s Golden Age, 50YO Tawny, bottled in 2022. A delicious caramelised orange on the nose, sweet yet also balanced by a little acidity. Balanced entry with an attractive palate. Nicely constructed, with an elegance lacking on some of the Single Harvest Tawnies tasted alongside this wine. Good aci...

Re: NV Taylor VVO Tawny Platinum Jubilee (bottled 2022)
Taylor’s Very Very Old Tawny, Platinum Jubilee edition. Bottled in 2022. Sweet on the nose with honey and lemon and a richness which outshines all the other wines at this tasting. Just as rich on the palate as on the nose, with marmalade and lemon and an amazing depth and complexity of flavour. Grea...

Re: NV Taylor VVO Tawny Coronation (bottled 2023)
Taylor’s Very Very Old Tawny, King Charles III Coronation Edition. Bottled 2023. Warm orange and and honey on the nose, beautifully perfumed. The palate is astonishing — there are tannins, coffee, jellied fruits and much more. Nice acidity and tannins frame the wine; lighter in texture than many of ...

Re: 2017 Fonseca
I love a young, fruity and delicious Vintage Port - this sounds just in my sweet spot. I know it will turn into something glorious in 50-75 years, but it's nearly irresistible as it is.
Great note, by the way!

Re: 1977's - Tue 11th June 2024
There will be fourteen of us, likely all full-capacity drinkers, and 14 × 1¼ = 17½. Table space limits us to 1×A3 + 1×A4, so to about 15 + 6 = 21 glasses. Would it be wrong to have between 18 and 20? Table space is a genuine constraint. It is more efficient if printing onto trimmed /A2 (e.g., Vesuv...

I’m another fan of the Carvalhas tawnies (including the colheitas). Your friend won’t be disappointed if they decide to get the tasting pack.

I’d like to join - I can offer Cr63, D63, F63! Oh Ben. Getting involved with the Port Forum is so dangerous. I remember when you buying 1963 VP was a pipe dream. Now look at you. Not one; not two; but three different 1963 Vintage Ports - and all top drawer 1963 Vintage Ports too. I am proud of you,...

Re: Travelling Between Quintas without a Car
You take pretty much what you can get, but your hotel will have a preferred local driver and I would go with them. Having someone you can call to ask to intervene in Portuguese if your driver isn’t where you expect at the time you expect can be very helpful.

Re: Delaforce tasting vertical early sept
Although Tony hasn’t said so, I am presuming that anyone who can contribute a Delaforce VP from a vintage before 1935 is likely to be at the top of the list of people who will be allocated one of the available seats.
Please do say so if you have something Delaforce from 1934 or earlier.

If I get time, I’m sure I wrote a review of the event which I will try to find. It turns out it wasn’t me who wrote the article, it was Roy Hersh and he published it in his May 2006 For The Love of Port newsletter. He has kindly given me permission to reproduce it in this thread. IMG_8078.png IMG_8...

Re: 60/63/66 Horizontal .... 23rd July 2024
I’ve found the organising thread for the tasting at the Crusting Pipe on Sunday 6th November 2005.
We tasted 1963, 1966 and 1970 from Fonseca, Graham, Sandeman and Taylor.
If I get time, I’m sure I wrote a review of the event which I will try to find.

Yes please.
This is a very similar theme to the first tasting we ever organised, in October 2005 before the Port Forum was created.
I’ll have to try to find a report on the evening, but if I recall correctly, we had Dow, Fonseca, Graham and Sandeman.

…my diary is rammed in April and May. I am pretty busy next week and it’s unlikely that I’ll be able to make the tasting. If I can, it will be a decision taken on the day. Please drop me to the reserves list and I’ll let you know at the last minute if there’s a seat still free which I can fill.

NV Borges Boal 10YO
Borges 10YO Boal. Deep brown honey colour. Fresh sweet soft tropical fruit on the nose. As anticipated, the balance on the palate is better than on the 5YO with the acidity and burnt honey playing together nicely. There is plenty of fragrant and bitter citrus on the big aftertaste and even a little ...

1986 Borges Bual
Borges Boal 1986, bottled 2021. A warm, rich amber colour. Fragrant nose bringing together orange and honey. The sweet orange dominates the palate, but with a lightness of touch that is quite charming. Orange and marmalade dominate the aftertaste giving a long and rather tasty finish. Very nice. 90/...

1968 Blandy Sercial
Blandy 1968 Sercial, bottled 2017. Delicious; balanced with the fruit dominating and enough acidity to keep the wine fresh and full of life. Lovely, full of flavour without being dominated by the acidity. 92/100. Tasted 07-May-2024.

1995 Cossart Gordon Malmsey
Bottled 2023. Tasted 07-May-2024. Fresher and brighter than the Blandy 1991 Malmsey. Packed full of wonderful bitter-sweet orange marmalade. Irresistible. 92/100.
