Re: 1985s, B&F, Wed 16 March 2022

This was a good tasting - much better than the 1991 and 1980 horizontals I have arranged previously. There were a large number of very pleasant wines. However I do not find myself compelled to go and buy lots of them to add to what I already have. I have quantities of Fonseca, Martinez, Gould Campbe...

A late addition of a guest from HTWH and a late addition of Dow as a result.

@nac - I may not be there until 1815 as a client meeting at 1400 has been changed to 1600 - if you were able to start pouring that would be much appreciated.

Re: Latest buy

@ Jamiesan12o - Hello! Magnums tend to mature about 50% slower than bottles in my experience, no matter what is in them (wine/madeira/port/sherry). In bottle terms the usual rule is 21 years from vintage as a starting point. So magnums 32. Your Vesuvio 96 is now 26. But 96 is a minor vintage so perh...

2015 Fonseca Guimaraens

20% ABV. From 375. pop'n'decant'n'pour Extraordinary amount of sediment. 90% opaque. Crimson rim. Cool blue fruit on the nose, later a little spice. Lots going on on the palate. Masses of well- rounded but still tart red fruit compote. Then a note reminiscent of those Polish preserved cherries. Then...

Re: Wed 06 April 2022, Horizontal of 1992s, B&F

I am now going to be running late for this tasting, as I will not land at Heathrow until 1825 on 6th, but I am determined to attend, absent flight delays.

I will aim to deliver the GM92 to the B&F the previous week and will ask them to decant it on the morning of the 6th.

Re: 2007 Churchill

Middling dark red. Quite dumb on the nose at the moment. But on the palate this is the real thing - big full rich ripe port. Young, but very promising.

Paler than the 2000. Smells sweet and powerful, congruent palate. Finishes a bit short at first but fills out later.

Dark as anything here tonight. Full brooding nose. Good big rich port. Drying tannins still. A baby.

Very pale red. Spicy nose. Warm red licorice on the palate. Pleasant but minor port drinking well tonight, but to be drunk up.
