Re: :tpf:

Emoticon :tpf: added. I think correct form is for :tpf: to be a link, as done here. FWLIW, I did suggest to a another site’s webmaster that it might want a favicon of http://www.jdawiseman.com/ftlop/20080413_ftlop.gif but no feedback was received, and it doesn’t seem to have been used. We could use...

Julian - please could you amend the blind mats to include a 12th "control" bottle. We will leave this to one side of the tasting mats if we decide to go with the named mats.

Thanks,

1980 Ferreira vintage port

Opened 12 hours before drinking, one of the bottles that had been stored upright in the case that Sean recently posted a picture of. The case was quite a bizarre arrangement that I have never seen before. A standard cardboard carton with the bottles upright in the carton - with the carton then being...

It does look good.

But my only complaint (and one which I will pass on to Stewart when I get the chance) is that the forum no longer works on my BlackBerry.

I think I can make the 8th if there is room and I can source. Gotta tell you all that I really enjoyed the 77 port night, talked about it for weeks after. Dovetail was a great spot, I will be revisiting shortly with wife. I have found port lovers are very similar to wine lovers, except they drink m...

Very interesting indeed. Thanks for posting such a good and detailed account of what you tried.

Another vote that filtering through unbleached coffee filter paper does not seem to affect the taste at all.

Tasting Mats - A new development?

I’m pondering the merits of adding another feature to the placemat software, but it wouldn’t work nicely on a decanter label. Do you use decanters or double-decant into bottles? Through a combination of using my own decanters and water jugs and whatever I can borrow, I intend to use decanters on Ma...

TCP Offline April 10 2008

Christopher and I were joined by newcomers Alex, Neil and Ben - who we hope will all subscribe to TPF - for a very pleasant evening of port consumption. More details will be posted later (I was hoping to post live using TCP's new wireless service, but it's not working yet), but the ports we thorough...

Im happy with whatever you guys drink as long as Im not totally drunk before the tasting starts. Axel Being (or not being) totally drunk is outside the scope of responsibility of the Catering Committee. I'm afraid you will have to take personal responsibility for this. Not at that price, especially not with international shipping added.

There are some attractive prices mixed in with some very eye-watering prices on the Aabalat list.

I require port mixed with water.

I've never seen that on anything other than vintage port - and then only on older bottles. Bottles (of vintage port) these days seem to have slightly tapered necks which are narrower at the top of the neck than at the base of the neck.

1969 is not a year that comes up for sale or resale very often in port. I don't have any 1969s in my cellar and don't think that I have ever tasted one. I know Taylor bottled a Crusted Port in 1969. A quick look on Wine Searcher indicates that there is a Warre (presumably Cavadinha, colheita or LBV)...

Blinded tasting mats are likely to be the ones chosen and used. Are these intended to be printed onto A3 or A4? Also, should I use A3 or A4 for the tasting notes sheets?
