Such a beautiful Port. One of the best I've ever had the pleasure of tasting.

Not in the bible? Outrageous.
Just checked. There's a 1957 Graham's Malvedos, but not a general Graham's. 3rd edition needed!

Re: Mould under foil/on top of cork
I've seen it often enough (saw it just yesterday, when opening a Fonseca Panascal 2004). It's not really an issue, as long as the mould doesn't extend to the *inside* of the cork. It's a good idea to clean it, though, as, when pouring, the wine might come into contact with mould that might be presen...

I'm attending this year for the first time (as a visitor). Looking forward to it and to seeing some familiar faces.

Re: Is 30yo VP darker than it used to be?
It's not an insinuation, it's just a fact that there's more flexibility to experiment and to make small and micro batches to try out different things, including (but not limited to) whole bunch fermentations. There was no offense meant, or any attempt to frame the question as "small=good, large...

Re: Is 30yo VP darker than it used to be?
About how much stem inclusion is now being use for VP? I can answer that: none. At least in the big producers. Smaller operations might be experimenting with that, but the big boys all use big destemmers and selectors at the winery reception. At least this was my experience working for a couple of ...

Re: Is 30yo VP darker than it used to be?
That worries me. I sincerely hope that, in the quest to make VPs more approachable at a younger age, producers haven't stunted their long term longevity. The observation is that Port seems to age slower. That might well be the opposite of “stunted their long term longevity”. Well, Phil specifically...

Re: Is 30yo VP darker than it used to be?
All things mentioned here are plausible, and could have, to more or less extent, affected the colour of VP over the years. It is, of course, impossible to say for sure. Something which might affect the extraction and colour for years to come is the use of robotic treaders. They don't tire, and work ...

Nickolls & Perks is having a sale on some items. Fonseca 2000/2003/2011/2017 for £54, for example. Worth a check, in my opinion.

6 x Warre Cavadinha 2006, directly from SFE, at €16 a piece. These are probably drinking nicely right now, but will probably better in 5 or 10 years. I might wait - or not.

I was about to email Glenn about perhaps getting together at some point next month, until Alex specifically mentioned the month of May. Yes, I know it's in the title, but what can I say.... The week after this tasting I will be in Portugal for a private "harvest tour" so we might still be...
