1970 Warre
W70 Following on from tasting lots of younger ports at the Jan 4th Emergency at the B&F, this fine port was decanted and drunk from the pub's cellar after the main tasting and dinner. It was a lovely finish to the evening and contrasted so well with it's younger cousins. Lots of toffee and caram...

Re: 2013 Unidade
U13 I really liked this port, and massive thanks to Wolfgang for bringing it along. I found it sweet, plummy, with lots of fruits and very drinkable now. I didn't get the sense of 'Tanky' that Julian perceived, but there was a dryness on the finish. I have heard and read so much about this project, ...

Fr07 A very fruity, smooth port with some dryness too. Maybe i am mad, but it was like drinking a very strong Australian Shiraz. I look forward to trying this again in 15 or so years to see how it has developed.

V03 Lots of fruit on the nose and on the palate. Julian spot on with the prunes, but also plums and dark berries. A fine port, but possibly a bit dusty and closed as i didn't get the same wow factor I have enjoyed at recent tastings of the 94 and 97 Vesuvios. I am sure this will be a great port but ...

S00 A lovely port that had a good structure to it and effortlessly moved through the gears from big fruits, some spice and a nice long rich and smooth finish. ready to drink now and didn't appear to be closed at all, but I am sure it will be much more drinkable in years to come. This bottle was from ...

Re: Mon 04 Jan 2016, Emergency, The George then the B&F
An early January 'Emergency' to get 2016 going, and what a splendid way to start the year it was. Having met Julian in then George he soundly beat me at his self invented hexagonal board game (which was a cross of monopoly and chess), and this was followed by a lesson in whist, where I was once agai...

Great plan Mike. I am sure I can make the date work and would love to join this tasting. at this stage I may need to adopt, but will also try and find a suitable bottle in the meantime.

Re: Emergency, B&F, Monday 8th February 2016
Which offering would folks prefer from Cr63, GC70 and T77? I would vote for the Cr63. Haven't had it in a while but recall it being a lovely, elegant glass of Port. I would put my vote with Derek (Cr63) on the basis that I am looking forward to a GC70 in April at the Gould Campbell vertical. having...

Re: Alcohol and health
Does anyone know if I am more at risk from port or from the chargrilled sirloin steak (rare) that normally accompanies it? Btw please factor in that I eat lots of tomatoes (raw, cooked and processed) and always have.
many thanks,

Smoked salmon to start and steak and chips rare for the main please. Please be warned that Julian does not cope well with unspecific descriptions. I assume you mean: "Chargrilled sirloin steak 220g with hand-cut chips and grilled tomato" (rare), not [cold] "Rare sirloin of beef"...

Most users online query
"Most users ever online was 268 on 13:55 Mon 19 Nov 2012"
I am intrigued to know what happened at lunchtime on 19th Nov 2012 that led to the peak member traffic which I would guess was roughly 50% of members online...or is this ever present stat not what it seems?

Re: What is the best 1991?
May I ask a follow-up question? Which 1991 VP is the most reliable for the long term? My son, William, was born in 1991 and died in 2015. I want to open a bottle of 1991 each year on his birthday for the rest of my life. Thank you I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I am not sure that anyone know...

When should I decant Ferreira 2007? Sometime in 2028? Now 2314. I am almost three hours late. And to think that all those tv shows over Christmas suggested the greatest comedy duo being Eric and Ernie! I shall be decanting at 8am or earlier if possible. I am afraid I am not able to advise on ...

I got a couple of bottles from Lidl for £15 each. Am yet to try it properly, but went through most of a bottle after finishing some aged 40YO a couple of weeks ago, and it held up well. Lots of fire, but in a good way. On the label it is produced by C.da Silva, so would it suggest a Lidl BoB from Da...

Cr70 an absolutely stunning port to celebrate the new year. A beautiful, rich, red colour that certainly looked younger than it's 45 years and very clear. Full of powerful fruits, and absolutely delicious. Lots of heat showing when I tried a bit when first decanted, but at D+8 the fire had softened ...

NV Taylor Crusted 1978
NV Taylor Crusted Bottled 1978 Browning with a thinning rim. At D+4hrs v closed, with a musty nose. I almost gave up on this but returned to it D+24hrs and to my surprise found a very pleasant port with nice fruits showing through, no unpleasantness on the nose and a medium length smooth finish that...

A Young Vintage Port, Sighted From me, Ferreira 2007. When should I decant? I hope that was aimed at everyone :?: as I am afraid I am not sure of the optimum time for decanting younger ports. Gents,
Any ideas yet on whether this will be themed or blind?
Julian (and anyone else who is coming to the George), is 1pm a good time for you? Anytime should be okay wth me.
