One of those ghastly plastic caps on the top and the cork looks wet. But the level is still in the neck. I don't remember where I got this, but I seem to think I bought it largely on price. I thought I had more but god knows where. Not much on the nose but a bit of alcohol, let us be generous and sa...

The cork crumbled to dust before it was willing to let go of the bottle. Dark in colour, not much bricking or browning at the rim. A big nose of fruit and tar which was very persistent. Initially a bit hollow in the mid section of the palate, this filled out over about four hours. Nice dark fruits a...

The cork melted into crumbs when approached with a corkscrew but it decanted cleanly and has a good hard crust which enabled me to get most of the bottle very cleanly. The colour is dark, solid rim with a suggestion of tawny at the edge. Long legs down the side of the glass. There is something of ch...

At 21 years from the bottling date this is just of age. I liked this in the past. On looking at my notes this seems to have pulled itself together. It does not seem to have that jammy, slurred quality to the fruit previously noted, a bit more elegant and sustained. This has tightened up nicely with ...

Consistent with previous bottles this is a very high quality, typical Warre vintage. Packed with bitter tannins and a muddy brown rim which makes me think it might drop a lot of colour in the next five years, but then again the 66 didn't.

Waitrose have their “buy six get 25% off” sale going until Tuesday. Unfortunately I don't think that fortified wines are included in the sale this time. Sainsbury's also did not have them in 25% off sale a few weeks ago and Tesco haven't for some time. However M&S, which also have a buy 6 and g...

This still seems to be settling into itself after recorking, my advice would be give it a bit longer. Thanks for the photos. A mystery. The cork being more red at one end does seem to indicate that it was used as a stopper, so Warre 94 seems quite likely. I wonder if a few Warre 94 were used to make up the quantities that Tesco needed, and you got lucky. It seems unlikely all Tesco 94 would be Warr...

Due to the rubbishness of the camera on this iPad and the operator these are less than ideal. The the first picture shows '1994 vintage' the second shows the '1670' logo. I may try again, but I am reluctant to break the bottle to get the cork out. I might keep it as a trophy.

I think that is a very handsome bottle. I don't know the wine but it has several points in it's favour. Firstly it is in a magnum. A large bottle gives it the best chance to age well. Secondly the small print at the bottom suggests it will throw a deposit which bodes well for it to be (hopefully) no...
