Re: Xmas 2023 - The Unknown Shipper & His Peculiar Friends

Dear all,

It is with much regret that an ever changing world forces me to withdraw from this tasting. I have been in comms with MSC who is very happy to take my place as first reserve.

AHB, may you make the swap?

1977 Warre

Opened to celebrate the opportunity to consume a bottle of Vintage Port in peace. From a case of 12 purchased in July 2013 at Bonhams. My cellar records tell me I paid £40 all in per bottle. Provenance - Oxford College (college unknown). Opened and decanted at 0900. Cork broke owing to operator erro...

An excellent evening - thank you Martin for the contributions and organisation. In summary, I would be happy to own every wine there. Each was a joy to taste and I learnt a lot. The Novak just did it for me. It felt more balanced than the Graham and Warre. Tasting notes to follow.

Alex and I will be there but it would be great if we had an extra pair of willing hands to help so if you can help please let me know.
I can get there for 1700 if that helps.

nac wrote: 13:03 Mon 05 Jun 2023 Corney & Barrow have just listed an in bond 12 bottle OWC of Noval 1997 (NOT the Nacional) for £2,750.

I would suggest that it's optimistically priced.

The similar status case of Taylor 1992 for £1,500 looks like a bargain in comparison.
Think I paid £34 pb dp a few years ago...

1966 Warre

Purchased at Cheffins in 2021. Identified by capsule only. Fill level upper shoulder. Started leaking post house move therefore a worthy candidate for Hawksmoor Monday night £5 corkage. Decanted for 3 hours as I was conscious of the effect of the leak. I didn't need to be concerned. A dark wine with...
