Re: 1977 Graham

A little spirit, but for sure one the top third in quality for the vintage. This port is taking the scenic road to maturity. Those who were down it for the last decade may have a change of heart on the next go around. I find 1977 in general to be more hype than its warranted. I'll take '85 over '77 ...

Re: Riedel glassware - to dishwash or not?

I play it safe and never put any stemware in the dishwasher. The one in a million that breaks is such a pain, I'd just rather wash them all by hand and not worry.

I haven't been digging the top 94 VP's right now and would hold off from drinking for the near future. Re-visit 4-5 years.

Can you wait it off and drink both on their upcoming 50th anniversaries? Do you have an '63 for this year? As others have mentioned, it's a coin toss.

If you can get anywhere near £900 for a case of '85 Grahams, you are in the wrong business! The Symingtons will be ringing your phone as the next UK sales manager!

Re: Port Vintages: The Book

Took a quick look through the Sandeman chapter. Some cool stuff in there. Will spend some more time going through when I can. I've had most of the 20th century Sandeman vintages, so it'll be interesting how their notes line up with my foggy memory.

Well done guys!

Best is to try a sample of what's available and go from there. Doesn't matter a suggestion if it's not a choice. Plus, you want cheeses that you actually like!

Most likely Amontillado which can wear many shoes for sherry. Not too robust or light; just right for most circumstances.

Would have to be really cheap (40-50% retail) for me to consider buying that bottle. I like tawny is fresh bottled as possible.

Most you'll get in USA assuming it's in great condition is around $300 for the case, most likely less. I would just drink it. Retail and 2nd market pricing are worlds apart.

Re: Port storage advice needed

This is a no brainer! If you already have a cellar/room which you are willing to commit completely to wine storage I would never consider wine fridges. After all, you're paying a lot of money for a steel box and shelves which you don't need. Just insulate the room and install a small cooling system...

Right now, I don't have much for Warre. Excel is saying a magnum 1970, plenty of 1994 and some 2000 LBV's.

Re: Some advice needed

40 year old Taylor tawny is great stuff. Tough choice between a 1970 vintage and a 40 year tawny. If it has to be "40", go with the tawny. No gamble on whether it'll be corked, etc...
