Re: It is time!

I'll be back out in the douro in May 2025 also if any of you happen to be there 👌 Welcome, John! I'm currently planning a trip to Portugal in that time frame, but have not yet settled on dates. It will be a private tour, but I usually arrive a day or two early to get adjusted to the time zone and m...

Re: A short goodbye.

So very sorry to hear this, Andy. Thank you for letting us know, and may the rest of your days be as peaceful and comfortable as possible, and surrounded by friends and family.

I will definitely think of you every time I open a 1970 or 1945 Graham!

Re: Apostrophe crimes

“O que estudas português?” is normally spoken as “Oo kek stoodas português?” Honestly! And people say English is a difficult language to master!! Brazilian is much more... sensible? It doesn't just add 'sh' to the ends of words randomly, and leading/trailing vowels are usually still pronounced. You...

Re: Apostrophe crimes

What's "fun" is that the only use I've seen (so far) for à is as an abreviation for... "a a". Yes, they shorten 2 x 'a' to just 'à', but only when the two letters are different words.

Re: Apostrophe crimes

Portuguese doesn't use them either. Well, almost doesn't. There are some niche uses. Yes, but Portuguese makes up for its lack of apostrophes by having 12 (ish) accented vowels plus an accented consonant for good measure. á, é, í, ó, ú, â, ê, ô, ã, õ, à, and rarely ò (though I haven't seen this one...

Re: Port for Sale!

Hi Mac, 1985 and 1991 are regular Graham Ports, not Graham's Malvedos. 1985 is also a regular Fonseca Port, not a Fonseca Guimaraens. If your bottles' labels say otherwise, they are likely fake. But I'm guessing you just copied & pasted and ended up with the wrong names. Coincidentally, I just h...

Re: Experiences with Blackett ports?

The State Store in PA (Fine Wine & Good Spirits) are listing all of them as 750 Ml. bottles. They're also carrying the Blackett 40 y.o. Tawny for $157.49 which is a decent price for a 40 y.o. Yes, that's a pretty good retail price for a 40, especially the Blackett 40. My price came from the las...

Re: Experiences with Blackett ports?

Blackett is Quinta de Brunheda's commercial brand. They sell a very large amount of Port to TFP, presumably to make the Taylor 10-20-30-40 (but I do not know that for sure). The Blackett brand isn't well distributed because they don't really want to compete with Taylor, but they're working on it. Th...

SMH. It's a VP with a t-stopper. What more reason does one need to doubt the authenticity?

Re: Port brand abbreviations

unless we wish to extend to colheitas now. That is a fair question. We do seem to have strayed into colheita-land, so much that signposts would probably be welcome. That begs the question, what is the purpose of the brand abbreviations? I dare guess that most tastings in the UK are VP-related. In t...

Re: Makes sense, I guess...

It was always going to be difficult getting West Virginia a Port, seeing as it is land-locked. It wouldn't have been a real Port anyway. The voters probably saw through the charade.

I think 27% is pretty good in a land-locked state with no Port!

At €130 (bought from Kopke itself) I think it was a good buy. Can't wait to open it.
That's a great price! Especially considering the BBR price for the Noval 50.

And so it goes. £320 per bottle while - not that long ago - I could easily find the Noval 40 Year Old in the US for $125. And the US is usually more expensive than the UK for Port.

Snagged a bottle of 1977 Niepoort. Been looking for one for years. Am v.pleased. But there was only one! A friend of mine found 2 many years ago and called me to ask if the Port is any good. I told him that yes, he should buy them without thinking, and that if he didn't want them I did. As it turns...

Re: 7 misc bottles for sale

They’ve been correctly stored in my parents house in a room temperature cupboard. Hi Chris, Depending on where your parents live, a room temperature cupboard is not actually correct storage for a bottle of Port. Port - like any other red wine - should be stored in a cool place for long-term storage...

Re: Port brand abbreviations

P - the single capital letter feels wrong for a small family business. Pi - is used for Pintas Pa - is used for Quinta da Pacheca Which really only leaves Pn. Any objections? Ugh. Pn should be Pintas and Pi should be Piano. It's confusing enough to me to suggest that, if Pi cannot be changed, then ...

I'm not surprised by the Kopke and Pocas, but I am surprised that the Valegre didn't receive any votes or mentions at all. My memory of it is that it's a pretty amazing Port.
