1995 Quinta da Roeda (Croft) Vintage Port

This is the first of a brace of bottles purchased in June in a vain attempt to find something to drink while better bottles lie undisturbed for a few months longer. The bottles are disappointingly dark and difficult to decant, but at least the bottles are moulded with the seal of Croft moulded in. T...

I'm very pleased to see that the sun is shining and that you are all studiously taking notes. I'm looking forward to seeing them posted as I sip what's left of my Cockburn '83. Any early clues as to what you rate as the wine of the night? How did the weak (your descriptor, not mine) vintages of Fons...

1983 Cockburn Vintage Port

The second of the pair of bottles of Cockburn '83 that I purchased in March 2006. Decanted cleanly and easily off some well settled and heavy sediment (after only 1 day of standing upright). The nose on decanting was muted and a little musty. After 2½ hours in the decanter the wine was a clear and s...

I am also relying on the fact that since Julian will be with you in person that all such notes and postings will be perfectly p...

Moses - I take it all back. I did absolutely think you were winding me up when you described these glasses. I'm just in shock that anyone would think of drinking their port from one of these. Mind you, for a port 'n' tonic it might be a useful way to keep the ice off the end of your nose, but only i...

I've seen (and tasted) colheitas from Barros from 1938 (bottled 1999), 1940 (bottled 1999) and 1957 (bottled 2001). I've not seen anything older than the 1938 and don't know what they still have in stock.

Derek - are you sure that the wine was corked? I've never known a corked wine to recover over time, only to lose more and more fruit smell and develop more and more wet cardboard. The only time I have known wines to recover from a flaw was when it suffered from bottle stink - which I describe as bla...

I'm mildly interested since it looks like my travel plans for December will be European only. However, weekends are bad for me so I would only really have a chance of being able to make an offline in Cambridgeshire if it were Monday-Thursday night.

Subject to my diary and travel commitments (I know that I have to make a trip down to Oz in January or February), I'm in for the tasting. I fully accept that there is probably an elevated risk associated with this particular bottle and with its provenance, but this is a chance to taste history and b...

Fred Thanks for posting the note on the NN '83, despite the disappointing experience. I have a couple of bottles of NN '83 that I bought from Noval last year and I am now slightly worried. However, I am still hopeful that you had a poor bottle as Roy's tasting notes on the NN '83 were very different...

Who can describe the roles of ' " ‘ ’ “ † ′ ″ â€Å¡ â€Å¾ ? (Other than me.) Does the long silence mean that even AHB has conceded? The long silence actually means that AHB has been away working his socks off and has had hardly any time to drop by the forum. However, I was disappointed not to...

A little late to the party, I understand that Straker Chadwick held a wine auction over the weekend. Any clues as to port prices for the autumn from there? Did anyone attend? Are we going to look forward to a bumper season of cheap port at auction or are prices at auction still looking ridiculous? A...

I've just discovered a new port forum that I knew nothing about until a few minutes ago when I was trying to see where else we were being referred to.

Try this link to have a look. There's not much traffic there though.
