1906 Quinta da Brunheda Colheita
A very dark brown colour, almost opaque at the centre. A maderised nose, very strong VA with a distinct appley core. A smooth impact with a lively sparkle from the VA. A lovely appley complexity and a stewed fruit mid-palate. The aftertaste brings a wallop of black molasses and creme brulee. I did n...

1985 Delaforce Vintage Port
Double decanted for 24 hours Paling colour, thin on the rim and showing signs of maturity. Alcohol dominates the nose, underneath I can pick up stewed rhubarb and cooked tomato. A slightly sharp entry, a little unbalanced but the fruit develops in the mid-palate with the wine blossoming beautifully ...

Re: Crusting Pipe 11th Oct 07
Graham's 1991 - decanted 12 hours A lovely port for drinking now but with enough substance to last a good few years yet. Excellent colour and weight, full of typical Graham's fruit - "liquid Christmas Pudding" is a quote from Tom. This was the second last bottle from a case I bought about...

So Turnbull time can be measured using a Caesium clock. But I still don't understand how Turnbull Time can be used to estimate the half life or decay rate of a given collection of bottles. Ie. the amount of time in Kilbys that it takes for a collection of Turnbull bottles to double the Turnbull Time...

Thank you all. I have now achieved truly meaningless status. (However, I think that I need to point out that in the event that there is only one bottle in the collective then 1 Bridgeman = 1 year and a Caesium clock can be applied in this instance. At all other times a large, manual wind-up ...

But our collective life experience will be 88 years next week. You will have 44 and I will have 44. In six months time, our combined life experience will be 89 years. So should I talk about my cellar gaining an extra year of collective bottle experience every 17 hours? Alex  (PS - this is a...

Mmm. Tom's made me think differently about my answer. Listed above is the proportion of my port cellar (which is 78% of the wine I own) that is Vesuvio or Fonseca, but reading Tom's answer made me wonder what the reply would have been in terms of vintages covered. The answer was Vesuvio with 14 (no ...

Alan, Its quite simple. I have 400 odd bottles in my cellar, between them they collectively increase in age by 400 years between 1 January and 31 December. Therefore they age 1 collective year every 1/400th of a year or every 17 hours and whateveritwas minutes. Is this a meaningless statistic? Some ...

I logged on this morning around 7:30 am and noticed that there were 4 guests also logged on. I often notice a number of guests when I am on the site and wonder whether these are real people browsing or whether the "guests" are search engine bots having a look at the site. Is there any way ...

I thought I'd revive a meaningless statistical thread (hence its place in meaningless drivel) that was once running elsewhere that rather upset KillerB - the average time it takes for your cellar to gain 1 year in collective bottle age. KillerB maintains that this is a meaningless statistic, but I s...

It will come as no surprise to Derek - who has already analysed my cellar to identify that I suffer from CVD - for me to say that my cellar is dominated by Vesuvio. I'm happy to say that this is a complete vertical running from 1989 to 2004. However, I should also own up to the fact that because of ...

1991 Morgan Vintage Port
Another bottle from the cellar clearance by Taylors. Opened about 1 hour ago, to keep me company while I balance my chequebook. A deep, inky red. Opaque centre with just the start of some rosiness on the rim. A bit dusty on the nose, with fresh blueberries underneath the dust. In the mouth this is s...

I seriously, really enjoyed that tasting note and loved the imagery that you created with your choice of words and descrip...

highly recommend the Cruz 1989 from Morrisons Hmm. Perhaps I was a little carried away with my enthusiasm on this one, but I think on reflection that Alex is right - I can't highly recommend this wine. However, I have had three of these now, all bought from Morrisons in the last 12 months and I kno...

I first came across Chateau Musar wines when travelling on an intercity train from London to Hull, many years ago. I was having dinner in the Restaurant car and wanted something to wash down my steak. They had half-bottles of Musar on their wine list and the price was very reasonable compared to the...

Admin Note: Moved from here Pre-amble. For those that dont know me, I have a soft spot for this Port, and will be expecting to like it. I will of course try to be independent, but thought it worth mentioning. I'm also going in for an Angiogram tomorrow. That's were they shove a tube up the main art...

just finished the last of my Dows '63  :? I'm a '63 baby and I've never tried the Dow '63. One day I will. If you want some hints on cheap, every day, respectable value for money ports then we can highly recommend the Cruz 1989 from Morrisons (£10.50 a bottle unless you buy in a sale when it's...

Gonzo, Welcome to The Port Forum. Hopefully you will be amused and interested by what you read here and will post again. The current low retail price for Taylors 2000 is around £550 per case plus VAT. A broker will take a margin from that and an auction house will take their seller's commission and ...

1999 Chateau Musar
I've always been a fan of the Hochar wines and Elizabeth and I decided to open this bottle tonight to go with a leg of Welsh lamb that we were having for dinner. This wine is superb at the moment, probably at its peak. The nose was of sweet, ripe fruit. This sweet fruit carried into the mouth but wa...
