I just bought these... http://www.wineware.co.uk/images/products/main/blind-tasting.jpg Rather than various decanters being carried from the four corners of the land to Wokingham should I just bring these and we use the original bottles instead? Derek How are these going to conceal differences in h...

Most users ever online
Somewhere in the the statistitcs in 'Who is Online' it says: Most users ever online was 156 on Tue Jun 26, 2007 12:55 am I never paid much attention to it, but I was checking out :ftlop: the other day to see what all the fuss was about and I noticed this Most users ever online was 124 on Mon Jun 25,...

I serve them at cellar temperature, can be a bit cooler but don't take it down to 0K like you normally have it in the US. I like pilsner and some other blond beers best at around 4-6C (39-43F). I prefer the darker ones a little less cold, say 8-10C (46-50F). Often the brewer will advise an optimum ...

1996 Vista Alegre LBV
Vista Alegre LBV 1996, bottled in 2002. "Traditional" and "unfiltered" are both to be found on the label. This port is in a dark brown (not black) bottle and has a cork. Bought for ┚¬ 14,50. I managed to snap the cork in two pieces while extracting it from the bottle. The oth...

I must say that - so far - I have had no bad experiences with BOBs produced by the Symingtons. Some of them even surpirised me. I can't say that of most of the BOBs by other shippers I've tried so far.

Nice to hear that their aged tawnies are good, I like that style a lot. I'll definitly be trying some of those in the near future...but first the 1996 LBV. Only two days to work for us this week because of two bank holidays right in the middle of the week (Queen's Day and Ascension Day) and most peo...

Re: 1994 Tesco VP (bottled by Symington)
After reading some on this site I think the answer to be Castelinho Vinhos.benread wrote:As an aside, can anyone tell me which house is responsible for the QDC - it was not mentioned on the bottle.

I don't remember the episode as a whole, just some specific details: - the actor Donald Pleasance and his way of speech; - wine storage (cellar??) with turned-off climate control in very hot weather to make sure tied-up half-brother dies during the weekend; - spoiling all the wine in the storage in ...

Three years in a row!!! :crying: I grew up in a family that doesn't take sweet wines serious: something to turn your back on as soon as you've acquired a taste for dry wines... So no port-tradition where I come from... Luckily I don't take for granted what other people say and like to find o...

Vista Alegre
Yesterday I went to an off-license that happens to be very near where I live to see what ports they have for sale... I noticed a brand I hadn't heard of before: Vista Alegre by Vallegre (Quinta da Vista Alegre, Pinhão). The off-licence was selling four or five LBVs of this brand, the oldest being ...

Any old port in a storm
Today, just out of the blue, I was thinking about a Columbo-episode featuring Donald Pleasance which I saw once, maybe twice, when I was a teenager (many years ago). In that episode Pleasance played a wine connoisseur who murdered his half-brother (plot summary here) . Even though it's the only epsi...

A few days later:I wrote:Right now I find it hard to say which I like better. I will be tasting both in the days to come and find out...
On their own they were both very good aged tawnies, but when tasted side by side, I preferred the Conqueror over the Otima on every occasion.

I think of Heritage as adequate, especially when it comes at £5 per bottle. I may even have suggested that it was better than the Warrior but it could have been an adrenaline rush caused by having a drinkable ruby for a fiver. The Heritage sells for ┚¬7 and the Warrior for ┚¬9 over here. I'...
