Won't be able to make it on that date, due to work obligations I'm rather limited in my availability sadly; and already took some time off for the Portwieinmesse later that month.
Wishing you a very pleasant tasting!

Re: Latest buy
At auction the following Ports were purchased all in for €250.00: 2 x G63 1 x S63 1 x T60 1 x D66 1 x Unknown 66 I’m not sure if this is just an Irish thing but all these bottles were plain unlabelled Irish bottled Port and there was no interest. I was the only bidder on one lot and the other lot h...

Re: Port brand abbreviations
Elsewhere , Gl has been proposed as abbreviation for Gilbert. Generally I'm less a fan of lower-case l given potential confusion with upper-case I; however we do have precedent such as Dl = Dalva, and minimal confusion potential in this particular case anyway. So, Gl for Gilbert then? Confusion pot...

Out of interest, what is GI? In the picture the fourth bottle is Gilbert’s, which is absent from the Port brand abbreviations thread. Also see the thread Looking for Gilbert's 1992 , and also New here, looking to learn . I made up that abbreviation, since I did not see it in the thread. Have indeed...

1992 vintage ports
In the past 4 years I've been trying to collect all the 1992 (birthyear) vintage ports. The big houses were easy to collect, however I struggled with finding the CkC, EV and GI. I now have at least one of all the 92s, and multiple bottles of most of them, except for WC, Nv and SW; which I will hunt ...

Re: 1985 Cálem - suspicious bottle
I think this bottle looks correct to me. So i have had a quick look in the cellar and found a few of these. I bought these from Vintage Port & Wine around 3 to 4 years ago. they had come direct from Calem. Please let me know if you open one of these, if there's any deposit in the bottle and whe...

Re: 1985 Cálem - suspicious bottle
That looks genuine to me. How odd. Have you asked the IVDP to confirm the sello was one given to Calem? Everything about the bottle seems correct. Even underneath the capsule and the cork looked correct as well. I have no doubts that this is a legitimate bottle from Cálem, it's the contents I don't...

1985 Cálem - suspicious bottle
Having tried the Cálem 1985 twice now, I'm positive that the bottles I own do not contain 40 year old vintage port. The port does not have any deposit whatsoever and is way too structural and dark coloured. I'll be in England (London, Stourbridge and Manchester) in March and can bring my 3rd and las...

Re: Decanting for a tasting
@ Rummy - MigSu is right in his interpretation of what I was saying. What you tasted was not consistent with this forum’s notes on Calem 1985, basically. Your suspicion that the bottle you tasted might not be ‘right’ is accordingly almost certainly correct. I'll make a seperate post about this bott...

I think he's trying to say that Calém VPs has a consistent profile, which is the opposite of the what you tasted on that particular bottle. I think you're right, thank you. I should say - your note on the Calem sounds very much like a note on something else. The Calem is consistently, dry, plummy port and fully mature. See tasting notes index. Checked out the tasting notes index and made some adjustments on my previous post. However, I'm not sure however what you're t...

Re: Decanting for a tasting
Thank you Glenn, this helps me a lot!
I shall open the bottles at around 7-8 a.m. and re-cork them at the start of the tasting, having some sips of the Fonseca while preparing/cleaning for my guests.
How do people generally organise these tastings, do they really own a lot of decanters?

In about a week I'm organising a 85 tasting for some friends. We're going to try 12 different bottles, starting at around 13:00. You would be very welcome at a London tasting - everyone who is a member of the Port Forum is invited to all our tastings. Not having a bottle which fits the theme is not always a problem. Often you can "adopt" a bottle from someone else, either paying cash for the bottle you adopt or swa...

Hi all, Port lover from the Netherlands here, started getting into ports around 5 years ago. Started buying vintage ports like a madman and currently have a cellar of about 700-800 bottles. Most are 85's, 92's (birthyear), 94s, 2000s and 2017s. Some special bottles are Fonseca 63, Taylor's 70 and Ni...

Fortnum & Mason 2011 by Niepoort , then costing £39.95, and bought as an experiment. Dark dark dark red, 95% opaque. edge of shutting down. Blackcurrants, and lots of sweet fruit. Any thoughts on this being a regular botteling by Niepoort, Morgadia da Calçada or something different alltogether?
