Re: 1995 tasting - 18 November 2025 (B&F)

I have now booked the Boot & Flogger Red Room for Tuesday 18 November. This was about the best gap I could find in a fairly hectic port diary (shout if I have messed it up at all!). Now we have a date I would appreciate it if people could confirm attendance (or not). Appreciate this might not be...

1995 tasting - 18 November 2025 (B&F)

I feel it is time I organised a tasting. Not easy to find a theme that has not been done recently but I cannot find a horizontal of 1995s. I doubt this would be an epic tasting but I think it might be interesting to get 12 or so 1995s together to see how they are tasting after 30 years. I have a cou...

Thank you George for organising a really enjoyable evening. No port really stood out to me on the night. Noval Nacional 1979 - Real?

Last year I purchased this bottle from a Scandinavian auction. It was part of a reasonably large collection of ports from a natural cellar in Sweden. I did not think this port existed so thought I would buy it to take a closer look (seemed like a good idea at the time, even though my admittedly limi...

Re: Getting a whole cork out of a bottle

I tried this technique using a compostable food bag last night. I usually just push the cork into an old unknown bottle then smash the empty bottle in a bag to get the cork out. I wanted to keep the bottle on this occasion (future candle holder) so tried this. Took me three attempts but worked a tre...

Really enjoyable tasting. Thank you Neil for organising. My conclusions were very similar to others in that the Blenheim showed best. Definitely time to start drinking up the 1970s I have. I also really enjoyed the Sandeman magnum which came close to the Blenheim bottles in my view.

Thanks Ben for organising a very enjoyable tasting. There were no bad ports and no superstars, with around half very enjoyable. The Offley stood out for me on the night, a fair way clear of Niepoort and Cruzeiro.

As a little experiment I recently bought some old bottles of Noval LB (Brightwells for those wondering).
