I, too, enjoyed watching this video interview.
Just a point of interest. D. Symington will be a guest of honor in the "For The Love of Port" web page starting November 9, where questions will be posed to him by participants in that forum and he will answer those questions.

Re: What's your favourite Riesling, and why?
I like Alsatian Rieslings. Typically they are dry, brightly crisp, and go well with food I like to cook and eat.

What kind of sherry?
When watching television shows such as "Upstairs, Downstairs" I see the domestic servants bringing a tray of glasses and decanters into a room. One of these decanters often contains Sherry. My question . . . what kind of sherry would likely be in the decanter? It seems this sherry may sit ...

Re: A question of philosophy for port collectors
When I read the title about a question of philosophy for port collectors, I confess I had an expectation that was not confirmed by the subsequent discussions. I had thought that this would be a discussion of such questions as: (1) if a bottle of Port breaks in the woods and nobody hears it break, di...

Re: 1961 Leoville Las Cases
The 1961 Bordeaux vintage is very peculiar in that there was a severe problem in the flowering period that resulted in 1/3 the usual number of grapes being produced by the vines. Ask yourself what would be the result of an otherwise good vintage with disciplined, controlled production of grapes . . ...

Re: Hello from Michael H

I have discovered Specs when visiing and they generally have a good range of port, particularly colheita, which is harder to find in the UK. Enjoy! Thanks Ben. I do live in Texas, but north of Da...

Hello from Michael H
I am Michael Hann (Michael H), and I have just joined this forum. My exprience with port is limited, but I enjoy drinking port very much and am trying to learn by reading books and sampling what ports I can obtain. Beginning in November, I have been sampling a variety of late bottled vintage ports, ...

Re: Off Alcohol
Axel: Is this a moderately common practice among Germans? If I were to abstain from alcohol for a block of time, I think I would choose summer time. For me, winter months are a time of more robust eating, and for me drinking wine goes with eating good and abundant food. Also, I live in Texas where i...

Re: Off Alcohol
Axel: If you don't mind, can you provide some more information about this? I surmise your doctor has said rather than limit your alcohol consumption to 3 or 4 days per week on an on-going basis you can substitute daily alcohol consumption punctuated by a 3-4 week period of abstinence during which yo...
