Re: 2019 Declarations

I would put it a different way. If I could make 2011 outstanding quality Vintage Port every year, I would. Even if that meant in one year I could make 10,000 bottles but in another year I could only make 250 bottles. I would never make “passable” Vintage Port. If there was a year when I couldn’t ma...

Re: 2019 Declarations

Yes, but the question is (and, I think, has always been): what kind of vintage do you want to make? Are you happy to make 'passable' vintage ports, or do you only want to make outstanding vintage ports? I'm sure we can all agree that a 2002 or a 2006 aren't quite up to the standard of a 2000 or a 20...

I wonder what the base White Port is? Chip Dry is the obvious choice if this is a Taylor branded product.
It's Chip Dry, yes.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Graham 2000 at £45 inc VAT (free shipping over £100) at Bakers and Larners. https://www.bakersandlarners.co.uk/00-grahams-75cl Bloody hell. Costs €90 in Garrafeira Nacional, and that's probably the cheapest one available here in Portugal (most other places are €100 or more). £45? For that price I'd...

All - I'm confirming the start time, but 19.30 has been suggested. Please don't be early as we'll need a few minutes to get ourselves set up. I will either need to connect a couple of minutes early (5 or less), or some indeterminate number of minutes late. The 19.30 start time coincides with the st...

Re: NV Asda Reserve Port

I notice it was all gone, even online, in a matter of minutes (not to me, although I did track it). If Asda want to sell port they formerly sold for £8.30 as a loss leader at £3.98, is there any reason (barring, as in Scotland, a legal prohibition) why they shouldn't? [They aren't selling it below ...

Re: NV Asda Reserve Port

£3.98 per bottle. Ridiculous. I have a serious gripe with Port being sold at prices like that. As, I have no doubt, would Symington Family Estates. Honestly, a price like this completely undermines the perception of Port being a premium product. It's a double problem. Not only, as you say, does it ...

Re: Quinta de Val da Figueira 10 yo tawny - the ultimate Cellar Defender!

I had a freshly bottled bottle of this last year, which I bought mostly as a novelty since it had been shipped to the UK by sail by Port O’Bristol by Xisto and I was also very impressed. I can see that I wrote it was “an excellent 10 year old tawny that tastes much older than it is” which rather ac...

Re: Quinta de Val da Figueira 10 yo tawny - the ultimate Cellar Defender!

What a serendipitous find. Hurrah for houses, and cellars, that pass from generation to generation! Given the colour, do you think that the contents are rather older than 10 years, but simply bottled as such? Quite possibly. Or better yet: maybe it's a real 10 yo, and the 10 yo we now see on the ma...

I forgot to take a picture of the wine in the glass (yes, I was enjoying it that much), but here's a picture of the label.

Quinta de Val da Figueira 10 yo tawny - the ultimate Cellar Defender!

Was digging around the basement of my current home (a 5 generation hand-me-down) and found 12 cases (72 bottles) of a Quinta de Val da Figueira 10 yo tawny, bottled in 2003. Due to the bottling date (and my own implicit bias against 10 yo tawnies) my expectations were very low. I must therefore decl...

Re: 2019 Declarations

Label is consistent with all prior labels (no accent). Previous documention about the Quinta from the quinta itself shows no accent. The train station name has the accent. The word "Vesúvio" in Portuguese has the accent (which is why the train station has it), so the labels should too (we...

Roriz is no longer used for Port - I heard somewhere (but now can't find the source) that it is now dedicated to dry wines.

That is correct. It's Prats & Symington territory now! (well, mostly)

Re: 2019 Declarations

. A 2019 Dow’s Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira is apparently being released this year with the Vesúvio. They say they are going to sell some cases with two bottles of the 2019, two of the 2009 and two of the 1999 which sounds quite fun but I bet is at a ridiculous price. That sounds about right.
