Re: On the hunt for a 93!

I never understood why that wine is so expensive! Is it really that good? I make no claim that it is good, bad or indifferent, just that it is the only VP produced from that vintage so is extremely rare. I know, but still......€400+ per bottle for a - at best - passable Port? Jeez. I didn't name a ...

Re: On the hunt for a 93!

Hello all, I'm once again on the hunt for a bottle of 1993 port, maybe a couple. Not going to be vintage but the more I've looked into 93's there is still a wide range of LBV's out there. Many thanks for all help and advise given, have plenty of 1994's and 1991's but still on the look out for 93's....

Re: NV Calem 10YO Tawny (bottled 2019)

Finding one will be the challenge. I don't recall ever seeing one available at retail in the UK, but it must be somewhere. Whisky and Wines (who I don’t know) are selling it for £23.99 which isn’t the most attractive price for a 10-year-old when it seems to go for about €17.49 in Portugal. I do occ...

Amaozon UK sells it, but it might not be the 2019 one, judging from the image. Re: RE: Re: Latest buy

That's an incredible haul! I'm fascinated by those very old colheitas, they could be nectar or paint thinner... One of the 64's was a leaker, had it today. Level was below the shoulder, so the wine most likely wasn't showing its best side. Was a perfectly agreeable colheita, nothing spectacular but...

Re: 1985 Calem

The '85 Calem appears frequently at auction in Portugal and can be had for very reasonable tariffs (i.e., circa 35-40 bottle); like Julian, I find it makes for most agreeable drinking. Indeed, I try always to have some on hand in the cellar, to which end I purchased a few bottles only last week. Th...

I thought I had one colheita from one of those years but I don't even have that, it's an 1897.

Re: RE: Re: Latest buy

I've also bought fairly little this year - 41 bottles in total - all LBV Auction prices so far this year have been crazy - I'm not sure if this is the 'new normal' or a sign of inflation kicking off - a lot of commodity prices are running hot, so I'm wondering if we're seeing a flight to alternativ...

Re: The last 5 years: good luck or an improvement?

Virtually everyone had issues to varying degrees. The port producers had been used to getting the best corks for the best price. When the small cork producers amalgamated, you got what you paid for. The export markets paid for the best quality and the port producers got what was left over. The odd ...
