Re: Vintage at last??

Just a couple of points, for those of you interested in this sort of thing. - last week temperatures plummeted in much of the Douro, with highs of 22/23/24ºC. This week saw the complete opposite, with temperatures soaring into the high 30s. I'm still having morning dews in my vineyards (granted, I'm...

Re: Vintage at last??

I'd be quite surprised if 2023 was a classic vintage year. Spring was mostly hot and dry, with late May and June being quite wet. June and July have been hot (it is summer in the Douro, after all) but not particularly so, with some days actually being very mild. Morning dews have been very common, e...

Shouldn't this be in the "Other Fortified Wines" section?

Or "Other Wines", I'm not sure if this is fortified or not.

I too prefer the current approach. One TN per bottle (ideally).

Re: A Visit to Quinta do Noval

. This was the point at which we learned that wine labelled “Noval” has been made using grapes grown by long-term contract farmers on their own land. Wine labelled at “Quinto do Noval” has been made from grapes grown exclusively on land owned by Quinta do Noval. By law, any wine that is called &quo...

I’ve not tasted Dow 2007 recently, but a couple of weeks ago I tasted Noval 2007 for the first time in a decade and was amazed at how delicious it was.
Dow's 2017, not 2007.

I tasted this just before bottling...and then proceeded to buy 6 of them. Have very high hopes for this one, it'll probably age beautifully.

September is hard for an industry guest, I would venture. I less the tasting is held in the Douro!

I suppose a quick and dirty solution would be to change it to "1908 Da Silva Colheita".

1980 Warre

Audouzed for about 12 hours, then decanted for 6. Bricking around the edges, still fairly dark at its core. A bit of dark fruit on the nose, which is dominated by cherries, with a hint of spice. Really attractive. Tannins still present, but not overly so. Heat barely noticeable, quite fruity, in a j...

Those prices don't make any sense! £70 for a bottle of 2016 LBV and £85 for a 20yo, but 'only' £98 for a 40yo?!

Although I am not quite clear if they also own the Barros and Van Zeller brands, themselves. Barros is owned by Sogevinus, and Cristiano van Zeller (not of Barão de Vilar) owns the Van Zeller brand (along with his daughter, I think). As for the wines you mention, I've actually never tried either of...

Every time I've brought (Late Bottled) Vintage Port to a restaurant I've gone with #3. That way I retain control of the entire process (plus it saves me a trip to the restaurant in the case of #1).
