Re: NV Quevedo 40 Year Old (Bottled 2022)

Day 1 - popped and poured. Nose fairly ungiving, some high quality sultana. Palate immediately rich but not especially sweet and impression is quite impressively dry mid-late. Confit orange (not marmalade) on the finish. Promising I had one of these this past September and it drank beautifully. I h...

That would be $416 U.S. That's a ridiculously stupid price.

Re: Something off with this 1964 RP

I was going to ask you if you saw this on Catawiki, but then I saw your link and of course it's from there. The T-stopper at the top is ridiculous but the fill is also amazingly good for a 60 year-old Port. I'm not saying it can't have a fill level like that, but I've found it to be rarer more so th...

Re: Hello from the USA!

Hello justins and welcome to the forum. I'm in Pennsylvania, but there are Port lovers on this forum from all over the U.S. There's also another Port forum you can find if you're not already a member there (ftlop.com). Both of them are fun and unique in their own way. Where are you located in the U....

Re: NV 30 Year Old Moscatel Bodegas Malaga Virgen

Wait until you taste Carcavelos… George, I tried one about 2 years ago. It don't recall if it was a 12 year-old or 15 year-old, but it was just okay. I didn't take notes on it, but I remember being a little disappointed because I was expecting more from it. It's possible it was a bad bottle, but it...

Re: 1994 Offley Boa Vista

I had several 1994 VP's a week ago with some friends and they all showed well. They were still not at peak, but with a long decant they all showed nicely.

1994 Offley Boa Vista

10 hour decant. The color in the glass is medium to dark purple. Held above the light it shows some brownish, prune juice color. It has the slightest rose tinged rim. I'd say about 85% opacity. It was pretty dark. It's one of the darker 94's that I've had so far. I think only the Taylor's and Smith ...

Re: NV 30 Year Old Moscatel Bodegas Malaga Virgen

Does Moscatel have an indefinite shelf life? Or is it somewhat limited? I have a lone bottle of Moscatel that I took a flyer on at auction (Jose Maria da Fonseca Trilogia). I know next to nothing about Moscatel de Setubal so I'm wondering how soon I need to drink it.

That's a fantastic price. In the States, the average price is around 220€. Buy a Pocas as well if you can. I rated it very highly when I tasted it in Gaia.

Thats great info! thanks :) My kid is not even 2 yo so I'll be sipping it on another occasion then :) Looking forward to open it. Ps- did you need to use port thongs or was the cork perfectly fine? If you're looking for 1984 Ports in particular, keep an eye out for the Graham's Malvedos. It's quite...

Thank you for posting the score sheet, Michael. The scoring on the Kopke and Pocas doesn't surprise me; however, I am surprised that the Vista Alegre didn't garner any points. Their tawnies are usually pretty good.

Re: Latest buy

The Taylor 1992 can be a truly staggering wine, and last time I looked £1800 a dozen retail - so you have done well there too. I wholeheartedly agree, George. I think the 1992 Taylor's is the best Taylor's that I've had to date followed by the 1970. Granted I haven't tasted anything older than the ...

Re: Beach Weekend Port Tasting - 9/27/24

Mike, that sounds like a couple of truly lovely nights out. You were lucky with the 1994s, they can be variable, but in different registers - the Vesuvio wobbles between perfection and mere excellence, but I’ve had a harder time with the Dow. George, I definitely got lucky with the 1994's. I've see...

Re: 1982 Horizontal - Tue 10th Sept 2024

It looks like it was a fun tasting; however, I'm really surprised about the Ramos Pinto scoring so low. I've drank a few bottles of it over the last couple of years and I thought it was killer. I like OBV generally speaking as a producer, so I'm happy to see that it scored well. I'll definitely have...
