Re: 1994s, Tue 26 Mar 2024

I look forward to everyone's notes! We are doing a significant horizontal of 1994 the first week of August. Probably 26 bottles over 2 sessions. We have, I think, 30 or 32 bottles available but some just aren't worth including. Which bottles won't make the cut? Currently not included: Niepoort Niep...

Looking at the scores again, I see that the Fonseca didn't receive any points. That is shocking.

Re: 1994s, B&F, Tue 26 Mar 2024

I had a '94 Vesuvio earlier this year and it just blew me away. I had a '94 Graham's shortly after that and while very good, it couldn't touch the Vesuvio. With that being said, I'm still amazed that the Vesuvio ran laps around some very good Ports. Could it just be that certain bottles might not ha...

Thanks George. I have at least 19 bottles of the '94 maybe more. I'll know when I do my inventory in a few months.
And you don't have to convince me to buy more, the problem right now is the Mrs. might disagree. But it is an excellent Port.
Thanks for the scoresheet!

Re: Thoughts on LBVs

I had a 2013 Quinta da Pacheca LBV last year and it was excellent! When I first started collecting Port I sort of looked down at LBV's and treated them like the red-headed step child. But I had a few good ones, most notably Ramos Pinto and my opinion was changed. I now have a fair number of LBV's in...

Re: An Evening of Port with the Symington's, Tuesday 28th November at BBR and Friday1st December 2023 at 67 Pall Mall

I think we should appropriately acknowledge Bertie3000’s ability to be the closest to all the Ports poured blind at the BBR tasting. I nailed every one of the 67 Pall Mall Port tasting. I may have been helped by the placemat which said what each wine contained, but I’m certain I would have identifi...

That bottle looks in great shape for a '63. I had one 2 months ago and it was excellent. Best '63 Croft I've had so far. I hope your bottle shows just as well.

Re: Latest buy

Yeah that's an excellent price for a superb Port. Its only real rival from the 1980s in my opinion is 1987 Taylor Vargellas, and if you want to stretch a bit then maybe 1985 Graham. For an otherwise down decade for TFP, the 1985 Fonseca and the 1987 Vargellas are beautiful. The 1980 Dow is very goo...

Re: Latest buy

A case of Fonseca 1985 with excellent provenance at auction for fifty-four quid a bottle delivered. The best port of the 1980s for the price of an acceptable mature Cote Rotie from an unfashionable producer. Mad really. If I did my math right, that's approximately $65 US for a fantastic Port that h...

Re: "Port Edition" Durand coming soon - and UK purchase possibility

Do the Durands always work on old bottles? I run into those bottles with the crumbling corks and the soaked, splintering corks. For what they charge, I just want to ensure that they do the job no matter what type of cork I would encounter.
