That bottle looks in great shape for a '63. I had one 2 months ago and it was excellent. Best '63 Croft I've had so far. I hope your bottle shows just as well.

Re: Latest buy

Yeah that's an excellent price for a superb Port. Its only real rival from the 1980s in my opinion is 1987 Taylor Vargellas, and if you want to stretch a bit then maybe 1985 Graham. For an otherwise down decade for TFP, the 1985 Fonseca and the 1987 Vargellas are beautiful. The 1980 Dow is very goo...

Re: Latest buy

A case of Fonseca 1985 with excellent provenance at auction for fifty-four quid a bottle delivered. The best port of the 1980s for the price of an acceptable mature Cote Rotie from an unfashionable producer. Mad really. If I did my math right, that's approximately $65 US for a fantastic Port that h...

Just to let those who have told me they might be interested - I am still waiting on pricing and any further info; I have told the supplier roughly how many of us are interested subject to those details; I'll be in touch by PM/email once I hear further. I might be interested as well depending upon t...

My point of view is that no bottle I own is untouchable. It's more like finding the right special occasion and the right group of people to share that special bottle.

Re: "Port Edition" Durand coming soon - and UK purchase possibility

Do the Durands always work on old bottles? I run into those bottles with the crumbling corks and the soaked, splintering corks. For what they charge, I just want to ensure that they do the job no matter what type of cork I would encounter.

You never mentioned to anyone until today that you had written TFP 13 years ago and received a reply that seems to be sufficient. It would have been real helpful to mention that upfront. I...

Phil,

Are you saying the already bottled version should be very interesting with more age or are you referring to the '94 that's still in barrel to be bottled at a later date?

Re: Advice please

I'm with Phil, the '66 Fonseca is a truly special port when the bottle is in good condition. It's actually the best VP that I've had to date. As far as the 1970 VP, I've had the Fonseca and the Dow and the Fonseca is much better than the Dow IMHO. I have not tried the '70 Noval. Happy hunting when y...

You might be able to buy 1982 from Ramos Pinto, but I don’t remember anything older. You can also buy from Dick’s Bar to take home, but be very careful if you buy anything older than the 1990s from Dick’s Bar as these bottles are fairly priced (ie. relatively cheap) but are fairly priced to reflect...

Re: 1925 Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman Vargellas port

I would say that although the seal looks like it's sliced open, on one side, the side with the tax stamp looks like it is fully intact. To me that would say that the bottle has not been opened and refilled because the logistics of doing so would necessitate the tax stamp being cut open as well.
