Re: Port for sale by retailer

For those in a Pennsylvania or the US East Coast, Pennsylvania's state liquor stores are running their summer clearance sale, which includes quite a few ports. The most attractive deal found was 2011 Ferreira for $50 - I picked up two bottles

Re: NV Conceito 10YO Tawny

+24 hours, decanted and chilled. Nose is slightly dulled, as is the fruit-forward top note. The more I drink it, the more it surprised me that it is a 10 YO tawny. It seems less robust and complex than I would hope with that kind of age statement.

Re: NV Conceito 10YO Tawny

I bought it just about a week ago in one of rural Pennsylvania's state-run liquor stores (basically the only place we can purchase alcohol). It was "on clearance" due to having sat on a shelf for a while, but that's not usual for ports as they don't really move much in rural areas. I did s...

NV Conceito Tawny 10YO (bottled 2016)

Medium ruby color, lighter than I expected for a tawny. T-cork showed some mold near where the cork met the plastic, but this did not seem to extend down to where the cork was exposed to the wine. Some minor sediment. Bright fruit notes, settling into a strong cherry, with a brief lingering taste. N...

Our holidays will feature two flights (a newer but much-loved family tradition): Port flight - Cockburn Special Reserve, Noval Black, Cockburn LBV 2014, and a half of Pocas Junior 2015 VP Scotch - Glenmorangie Original, Glenmorangie La Santa, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, Glenmorangie Nectar D'Oro I'm ...

Re: Vingardevalise

My order just arrived, and everything seems high-quality. The inserts can be removed and reinserted with ease, and the bag has many nice features that even normal luggage lacks at this price point (360-degree wheels, built-in TSA zipper lock, rugged handles). Once we can travel again, I'm excited to...

Just purchased a Grande, plus a wine glasses insert and a piccolo-sized do-it-yourself insert. I'm hoping the DIY insert fits in some of my current bags

Re: Latest buy

Since I'm here, I just managed to pick up (from auction): 12 x 1985 Smith Woodhouse ($52.50 ea) 2 x 1987 Taylor Vargellas ($93.50 ea) 1 x 1966 Graham ($210) All good prices for the US (buyer's premium is included above), but probably nothing to brag about in the UK. I've been trying to find TV87 fo...

Once you have your criteria finally laid out, there are a few app platforms out there that could serve well for your list. Glide is the one I am most familiar with, and it requires no coding experience whatsoever.

Re: NV Rozes Terras do GriFo Rose

I can't speak for the rest of the US, since I live in Pennsylvania. Our state-run liquor stores are really dreadful in most ways, since it means that there are only about 30 different bottles total of port that the state allows to be sold in store (plus maybe another 100 that are special order only,...

Re: NV Rozes Terras do GriFo Rose

As for the nuttiness, I was also surprised. Along with the color, that makes me agree with you that it might be barrel matured... The label says Rozes only in small lettering, in the bottling details on the bottom of the front label. If I can figure out how to post an image, I'll take one of the lab...

Adrian's following along with all the worst ideas from the computer gaming industry. In this case, making product that's only suitable for the whales. He's probably desperately trying to figure out how to implement loot boxes for Port right about now. You can see the temptation, though, considering...

NV Rozes Terras do GriFo Rose

Pop n' pour, chilled before serving. Some minor sediment in the bottle, lingering towards the bottom of the bottle. Darker :CC3333: orange color than might be expected from a Rosé. Legs quickly run down from the sides of the glass. On the nose, caramel and toffee nuttiness. On the palate, smooth but...

Re: Taylor’s Kingsman Edition Very Old Tawny

Interestingly enough, I first heard about this not through Taylor Fladgate's social media channels, but from a cinephile friend's posting. I personally haven't seen this kind of a partnership before, and I think it is an interesting way for a port house to try to reach younger demographics. It almos...

A Question of Label Differences

Perhaps a novice question, so forgive the ignorance... WineBid currently has three bottles of 1985 Taylor on offer. Two have the label I've seen before, with a Kobrand import note: https://www.winebid.com/BuyWine/Item/7618194 and https://www.winebid.com/BuyWine/Item/7618195. The third has a complete...

Re: Experiences on WineBid

I'd like to hear more on people's thoughts about the market starvation strategy, perhaps in a different thread. From what I've read here and elsewhere, I'm still not entirely clear as to the motivations. It definitely is curious and somewhat frustrating that newer vintages are more expensive than ol...

Re: Experiences on WineBid

There's currently a number of VPs from my birth year ('94) that I might want to pick up as a horizontal tasting for a special occasion in the future. If only I had started buying port in volume when I was 26.. - although I suppose, buying a house was a bit more important then.. Beware of kee...
