I haven't had a drink since last night, but am somewhat dazed and confused.

Do we really need the LBVs? The VPs already provide >1 bottle per person.

And Cookie seems to be adopting/bringing 3 bottles.

This is what I think we should do:

1927 - JDAW
1950 - IDJ
1955 - AHB
1963 - MPM
1970 - DRT (adopted from MPM)
1977 - RLC
1982 - BMHR (adopted from RLC)

No 1975 or 1985 and no LBVs.

It would be me supplying the 82, but only if I can get it from Bonhams in time. As a backup we should keep the 85 in the mix perhaps.

I chose the wrong part of the conflicting evidence.

I have no strong view on this.

So far, so good.

I want to demonstrate our having been house-trained by including 1985. LBVs I’m happy to kill (or restrict to just the ’02, as we’ve all drunk gallons of the ’04). No 1975: even I admit that Croft is one of the best 1975s. And if a bottle is imperfect — we have four older than half a century — some extra wouldn’t hurt.

I have no strong view, I was merely attempting to simplify that which had become unbalanced, confusing and perhaps excessive for a school night.

BMHR adopting the 1982 and a team purchase of the 1985 would provide a contingency bottle and allow us to demonstrate our willingness to spend money at the venue. I still don't think we need the LBV and suspect they will be wasted in this company.

The current draft of the placemats has been updated to include my understanding of DRT’s recommendations.

(Do you know I’ll bring the 2002 LBV anyway? Good. In which case, should it go on the placemats?)

No. This line-up of mature Croft VP has the potential to be excellent drinking. The LBVs are functional at best, and will appear weaker alongside the real stuff. I think they are best kept for drinking on their own or with other LBVs.

A scientist might describe that as a “testable hypothesis”.

I think we both understand what the outcome will be. Probably best to add the 1975 back in while you are at it. The 2004 LBV can go on one of the extra spaces.

I am trying to get a '75 from Tom...he is playing hard to get at the moment...if I succeed you could have that as your contribution.
I have managed to secure the '75 from Tom so BMHR can adopt this if required.

Looking forward to this.

To judge from the debate that ensued whilst I was in the land of nod, I have assumed that a Cr60 is not required. On the menu front (and in the assumed absence of the honey glazed sausages for a starter):

Starter-Crab toast

Main-rump steak medium-rare with the TC chips and onion rings

Dessert-presumably can be determined on the night?

Having started the process to get a hold of the 82 bought on Friday at auction, I have discovered it is in bond at EHD which creates complications and makes it impossible for me to get in time for Wednesday. More worrying is that the delivery of 63 and 70 has yet to arrive :x I am investigating.

The food order has been submitted, with a request for a Croft 1985 decanted in the early afternoon.

Permission to use the kitchen has been granted, in exchange for a lesson in tonging.
