I've just found a load of letters written in the early 1930s to my great uncle, from a 'Jim Forrester'. They were at Oxford together. JF talks about breaking his leg falling into a hole next to a dam he was examining in Portugal.

I wonder.

The Forrester family were in Oporto long before the arrival of JJF and he left six children. The odds are probably quite short that your Great Uncle's friend was a relation.

Fair enough. It was the conjunction of the words Forrester and Portugal and mention of misfortune near a river that piqued my interest momentarily. These things run in the blood, you know.

Turns out to be another Forrester altogether. Another note describes him as Lord Forrester, aka this cove.
