How? It's a fact. You're not allowed to shout and point like that. Simple. Nothing to do with whether you think he's right or not.DRT wrote:...and then you let yourself down.djewesbury wrote:Wouldn't be surprised if Smith gets fined for that ungentlemanly behaviour.

And remember that this is, uniquely, a professional sport played not simply according to laws, rules or regulations, but also with an expectation of fair and generous conduct on the part of both captains. When people talk about the 'spirit of cricket', it isn't just a meaningless cliché.

Indeed, and having a dig at your opposing captain in a live TV interview after having enough time to calm down and gather your thoughts after the game has ended is extremely poor form. It even caused Beefie to stop moaning and admit Smith wasn't at fault for appealing.djewesbury wrote:And remember that this is, uniquely, a professional sport played not simply according to laws, rules or regulations, but also with an expectation of fair and generous conduct on the part of both captains. All I heard Morgan say (to Pat Murphy) was that if it had been him, he would have withdrawn the appeal. Which is fair enough.

Later on, or perhaps tomorrow, I will find the scene in the film of A Taste of Honey where Rita Tushingham's young gay friend implores her and her mother to stop arguing like fishwives. The screaming halts; after a beat, the mother replies, archly, "Oh give over, we enjoy it".jdaw1 wrote:Indeed, the same is meant to apply on ThePortForum.djewesbury wrote:And remember that this is, uniquely, a professional sport played not simply according to laws, rules or regulations, but also with an expectation of fair and generous conduct on the part of both captains. I guess cricket lovers will like the Spiegel magazine's picture of the day for the 5th of September:
http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/augen ... 22824.html
It shows some (elderly) gentlemen trying to catch the ball that Australia's Shane Watson hit into the stand. In my mind's eye I imagined the scene with some regulars in it. I guess it would like Delacroix's "Liberty Leading the People", but with Daniel as Marianne.

I think we could use that image to revive "Spot the Ball".
Come on Daniel, we could team up with Glenn and turn it into a computer game!

Re: It's just not cricket
I'm with you all the way Derek. By your side till the day I die. They may not understand us, the may never see what our love is, they may moan and chide at the depth of our feeling, tut and cluck at our craven need for each other. They may even think we bicker and argue. But they don't understand; and I don't care whether they understand or not. I don't care whether the world laughs or frowns or wags its finger at us Derek. I don't care so long as I have you.DRT wrote:I think we could use that image to revive "Spot the Ball".

Re: It's just not cricket
I have held my fire for long enough about this Stokes thing. I am not sure if he was out or not. But he definitely was out because I saw the umpire raise his finger. Smith is irritating.
Re: It's just not cricket
Yes he often has that look on his face suggesting he has been badly slighted or somehow the world is against him. Does anyone remember Peter Such that average England spinner from the 90s. He could sport a similar look.LGTrotter wrote:Smith is irritating.
