Should be game for this (especially if it is held on Manhattan).

Warre horizontal sounds like a great idea (I think I have '66, '70, '77 and '94 on hand). Warre LBV, while slightly less exciting, is also interesting. My only option would be the W86 LBV. Could also be game for an 87 tasting (I suspect this vintage may not get better than it is currently).

Looking forward to it

Which bottle of Warre are you all going to choose to share for this exciting "horizontal"?

Uncle Jacks would work.
I was thinking of Mr K's on LEx and 51st, they have a few private rooms downstairs and a nice open space on the 2nd floor. A little pricey but I can arrange for a limited menu with corkage/taxand tip built into one price (around the same price as Uncle Jacks). DO not think this venue has been used before?

So, I really need people to get back to me. Organizing a tasting for potentially 10 people requires reservations. Any direction on what people are willing to pay for meals, as I make no assumptions, is required.

We can worry about themes at the last minute.

Here's the options:

From previous, we were able to get uncle jacks for 125$/person (all in , tips/tax + corkage) It's a prefix menu that comes with app, soup/salad, entree and dessert and a private room for the tasting.

Harry's we would have to sort out the corkage before hand but it usually comes down to 10$/btl with food bill coming to ~100/person but we also get a private room.

Peking duck house in mid town would be 5-10$/person for corkage and food would be ~50$/person. Semi private but you get those nice large round tables.

Palm will be ~100$/person and corkage dpeends on if the GM is working that day or not (I have to call). We also get nice round tables but in the main dining hall.

Mr K's will most l ikely be around 80-90$/person including tax and tip.

That place uptown we went to for the 70s tasting was pretty reasonable actually both price and corkage wise and they let us stay the entire time, the tables were just a tad tight though.

4 of us are pretty much on for the friday night somewhere kinda nice but none of us know any of the prospective venues.

All sounded nice except the chinese - chinese and port? Thinking not...

Will contact brother and see if he has any strong views. Do you have links to the venues - pictures especially and will forward to the ladies too and see if they have a preference.

Chinese and port goes quite well actually

I've made a few believers in NY, though I 'm not sure if KillerB would agree except to say it brings out a different dimension to the food

Okay, here's a hard deadline for you slackers.

If by Sept 30th I do not hear from you guys on who's going and who's not going

I'm going to set the total party to exactly 6 people.

The venue then will switch to a fine restaurant that I know will definitely accomodate 6 people and 6 people only with free corkage unless someone else wishes to do the planning.

Edit: I say this because if i book a larger table for some of these other places i may get hit with having to pay for no shows.

We have another option

northsquare in the village

it's 38$/pre fix + 15$/btl corkage

which will still come out cheaper then the above.

Hey, if Palm West is offering free corkage, great (I'd thought we'd picked Duckhouse, when we chatted, but Palm is a fine alternative).

I'm in, and it's booked on my cal (which makes it pretty fixed). I've an event the following evening, anyways, so friday works well.

Theme time.

g-man, this looks good. I don't know North Square but then again I've never been to New York :-)

Now the question remains of what to bring...what sort of thing are you thinking to bring yourself / expecting?

If I need to pick something up that week, is there a good recommendation somewhere in NY for walking around and browsing?

mm I'm sorting out the cellar,

i might bring something like an 84 taylor lbv with also a port from 70s.

NOTE: I've already put down a deposit for holding this reservation and they're expecting 8 people. If you can not make it let me know.

Zelandakh: g-man and I have pretty deep cellars, and generally acquired below retail. Adoption is always an option :)

Hmm, i happen to have a 94 Taylor LBV. I was saving it for comparison with the 94 Taylor VP, but we might just want to open it for something like this. Perhaps alongside a 200x Taylor LBV?

As for bringing something from the 70's, i've got 70 Warres and 77 Smith Woodhouse, both of which might be appropriate for this tasting. I also have a couple of leakers we may need to tap into, it includes an F77, some of those dubious W63s, a Hoopers 63 (which we wrote off as an odd drink, but not a good VP), and a Burmester 80.
Speaking of 80's, there's always GC80 and Ch85.

Clearly, we need to find a theme in all this :)

we might be able to do something like that

84 lbv with an 85 taylor vp vs a 94 taylor lbv vs a 94 taylor vp?

i have a churchils 94 (not that good though, and one i tend to open for random guests who want something sweet to go with chocolate  )
