Port for sale by retailer
Re: Port for sale by retailer
Corney & Barrow have just listed an in bond 12 bottle OWC of Noval 1997 (NOT the Nacional) for £2,750.
I would suggest that it's optimistically priced.
The similar status case of Taylor 1992 for £1,500 looks like a bargain in comparison.

The Taylor 1992 is market (150/bt duty paid) but if I didn’t already have a fair bit I might be tempted.
The price of the Noval is about 10 x out.

You can never have too much of the '92 Taylor. I think it's better than the '94 Taylor.winesecretary wrote: ↑17:26 Mon 05 Jun 2023 The Taylor 1992 is market (150/bt duty paid) but if I didn’t already have a fair bit I might be tempted.

Mike, I agree. It’s a genuinely remarkable wine.
I notice from FTLOP that in a recent large scale blind tasting the Vesuvio came top of the 1994s which mirrors our experiences this side of the pond.

I had a '94 Vesuvio about 2 years ago at a tasting and it was closed down. The bottle was in perfect shape, but it wasn't giving anything up. I'll be trying another bottle later this year to see how it's faring as I'll be doing a '94 Horizontal in '24 for a bunch of college buddies. This year at our gathering in September, I'll be doing 40 year-old tawnies one night and then a '63 horizontal the next night. It should be fun.winesecretary wrote: ↑08:41 Tue 06 Jun 2023 Mike, I agree. It’s a genuinely remarkable wine.

To be fair, if that's the tasting that I was at, the Fonseca and Graham were both off in some undefinable way. I had them at 90 and 88 points respectively, and you all know how much I usually love Graham. I would have expected those 2 bottles to have been closer to 97 and 95 points.winesecretary wrote: ↑08:41 Tue 06 Jun 2023 I notice from FTLOP that in a recent large scale blind tasting the Vesuvio came top of the 1994s which mirrors our experiences this side of the pond.
But yes, the Vesuvio at that tasting was spectacular!

So much for reviewing my posts before I submit them. I don't think I'll be around when the next '94 rolls around.jdaw1 wrote: ↑22:55 Wed 07 Jun 2023Consistent with my belief that Port Preserves but Sherry Shrivels.Mike J. Re: Port for sale by retailer
I've been offered the opportunity to have 450cl bottles of Graham tawny 10YO / 20YO / 30YO engraved with a personalised message. The engraving on the bottle can be up to 60mm x 60mm. The engraving on the box can be any size that fits on the box.
The engraving service is only available on duty paid bottles and costs £60 per bottle (plus the cost of the bottle of Port, of course!)
If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll email details.

Having opened a 20 yr of this large size at a house warming party I had, it’s a fun event with a moderate/large gathering. The empty bottle was kept and is on display in my house. Having an personal engraving would be even cooler.Alex Bridgeman wrote:I've been offered the opportunity to have 450cl bottles of Graham tawny 10YO / 20YO / 30YO engraved with a personalised message. My Sainsbury’s has clearance Taylor’s 20YO Tawny at £25 at the moment. They only introduced it in my branch at Christmas, so obviously has not sold well.

Hi All,
I hate to mention Christmas, but for those interested, Vintage Wine & Port have just released the 2023 Quevedo Advent calendars, including the refill pack for those who have previously purchased one of the Prestige wooden calendars: You heard it here first!

No good to me but it looks as if Waitrose may be delisting their Quinta De La Rosa VP. Not a bad price if you can wait another 15 or 20 years

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Is that seriously off all fortified wines? Even things like Niepoort Garrafeira, where they are already the cheapest source in Europe?
