Thank you to Derek for finishing off that tedious job! Another enjoyable evening, with good company and well looked after by the Crusting Pipe staff. Moment of the evening was hearing Julian declare he really quite liked a Croft 1975! I think he may even have boted for it as wine of the night!

A great selection from 1970, 1975 and 1977. Only one dud bottle from them all. My wine of the night was the Kopke Quinta St. Luiz 1970, which I would gladly acquire a number of if the offer is still open!

The 1975's were impressive, given how much has been said about their quality. I would certainly consider buying them on that basis, if the price was right.

Thank you to one and all for turning up with interesting wines as ever. Looking forward to our next gathering, be that 2nd October or earlier.

Self humiliation and sackcloth and ashes: I voted Croft 1975 as WOTN, with Noval 1975 in second place.

An extremely interesting night; all the wines brought were unusual and several were wines I had not tasted before. Special thanks to Ben for organising everything and to Jacob for making the tasting mats.

Anyone interested in meeting up in September?

An interesting night indeed. Well done to everyone for resisting the temptation to bring along one of the big guns from this time period.

My WOTN was the Kopke Sao Luiz 70 followed by the Croft and Noval 75s in that order.

Meeting up in September seems like the right thing to do

This was definitely a night for the ’75s, with the Croft proving to be a forgotten gem. Also nice to taste two Morgans. It was a shame that my St Luiz was duff, otherwise that would have been another nice comparison.

On re-evaluation with the proper blend, the Crasto 2007 was much improved although, as with most 2007s, it was surprisingly drinkable and lacking in tannins. The agéd Sandeman tawny only goes to reinforce my belief that these wines do improve with time in glass.

Finally, it was a pleasure to meet jdaw1 and to enjoy the service of the Crusting Pipe again.
