If you were to combine your personal taste in Port, the reputation of that port and its current market value compared to other similar Ports,

What would be your Strong Recommendation/Current Bargain?

We'd all like the best Port in the World, but what has flown under the radar as the best value for money out there?
To give you a cheap example. The Morgans 91 that Tom has a decent supply of. Not a Port that reaches the dizzy heights, but at under £10 a bottle for 16 year old VP, it must be in the Bargain column.

Certainly that M91 is well up with the big boys for the year - which is why I bought so much!

But across the spectrum of vintages, there is a useful 'aide memoire':

"Offley Boa Vista is offley good value"

In style it is not unlike Vargellas - full and fragrant.

- but the wine is not well known enough to be welcomed by the trade!

OBV VP has never passed my lips. Do you have any with which you would be willing to part, for love or money? Well, for ‘good value’ amounts of money? Especially 1963?

Julian, If you are ever heading around to the western parts of Canada, I have around a dozen and a half OBVs... 2003 though, so we may want to wait for 15-20 years for the tannins to integrate.

Recent vintages of Pocas VP: both the 2000 and the 2003 are available here for about ┚¬15. Especially the 2000 is stunning for the money.

Warre's Quinta da Cavadinha 1995 VP for ┚¬25.

Dow's Bomfim, several vintages are available for ┚¬13 for a half bottle or ┚¬25 for a whole.

Pocas??? I'll have to show my ignorance and state that I've never heard of that one, never mind tasted it.
Is it a good standard 2nd or 3rd tier Port?

Full name Manuel D. Poças Jr., a Portuguese shipper, founded in the early 20th century. Traditionally good as a tawny producer, but recent VP's have been very good as well. Both the 2000 VP and the 2003 Director's Choice VP received 90 points from Wine Spectator and are serious ports.

If you find some by this producer, buy it. It's usually very good value for the money.
