sometimes when I write pms they are sent imideately and are viewable in the sent-msg-box. Sometimes they are in the outbox. Are they sent when they are in the outbox?

When you send them they wait in the Outbox. When read (even if only by one of many recipients) they move to ‘Sent messages’.
