Best Port in the best location in 2008

Post by Axel P »

This tread should go for some impressions of the best Port in the best location you have tasted in 2008.

From my point of view it was:

on the port side: the Cockburn 1912 at the Crusting Pipe

and on the scenery side: it was the Vesuvio 94 at Vesuvio

Due to the scenery of the Quinta do Vesuvio I would go for the 94 Vesuvio again.

Best Port: 1906 Brunheda Colheita at Roy's house

Best Location: 2003 Noval VP out under the ancient Lebanese Cedar at Noval overlooking the valley back toward Pinhao.

For me, the best location where I was able to drink port in 2008 was when on holiday in South Africa, staying at the Bakubung Game Lodge in Pilanesburg. Sitting on the terrace in the evening, sipping port whilst watching two hippos playing in the pool in the valley below the lodge was just wonderful.

A close second and the best port was the Croft 1927 that was shared with good friends and port lovers in Boston as part of the Croft vertical that we organised going back to 1896.

It's not difficult for me to choose the best port at the best occasion: undoubtedly that was the Fonseca Guimaraens 1976 enjoyed at my wedding.

Best scenery: Fonseca Guimaraens 1987 after lunch on the terrace at the Taylor's lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Best port: there were quite a few good ports this year, even though our consumption has gone way down since our move to Oman. One that sticks in my memory most is the Fonseca 1977. We enjoyed a very good bottle during the 1977 offline. And when it's good, it's one of my favourite all time ports.

So, all Fonseca this year. Not bad. :D

Imposible to say... Maybe Noval 66 -or Dalva Colheita 66 :)
Any time not spend drinking port, is a waste of time.
