From a solera started in 1960. Fortified wines are aged in barrel for 14-15 years and then added to the solera, from which 1/6th is drawn each year, so roughly the equivalent of a 20 YO tawny. Burnt caramel in colour, with an amber rim. VA on the nose, typical of a tawny port, with lots of almond and pistachio paste over the top of some fruity quince cheese. Burnt sugar on entry, lots of brown sugar and burnt toffee with sweet date fruit. A lovely finish full of brown sugar but balanced by a nice dose of acidity. Great complexity in the long finish. A very fine wine. 91/100. Drunk 27-Mar-15. Decanted 4 hours
