1995 Quevedo Colheita (bottled 2021)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 2021 for day 8 of the 2022 Quevedo prestige advent calendar. This colheita was matured in 600 litre casks for most of its life until being bottled. Similar colour to the version matured in tonnel, but with a much wider rim and clearly having lost pigment in the smaller wood. More spice and a little vanilla on the nose, slightly less balanced than the tonnel. Lighter and more spritely on the palate than the tonnel matured wine. A little thinner in texture but with the same powerful presence. The wine is a little more evolved, a little more open showing more spice and complexity to the fruit and butterscotch flavours. A little bitter-sweet Seville orange marmalade is starting to show on the aftertaste and long finish. Just as lovely as the tonnel matured wine, but a little more ready to drink. 93/100. Drunk 03-Feb-23. Decanted ½ hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
