1994 Quevedo Colheita (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

1994 colheita aged in 600 litre cask. Bottled in 9cl in 2022 for the advent calendar. Similar brick red colour but with a wider rim than the wine aged in tonel. A little more open on the nose with a dried red fruit and hazelnut paste. The palate is smooth and well balanced, the wine poised with the nut flavours dominating; sugar flavours hide in the acidity giving a teasing rum and raisin fudge. The late palate is so expressive, full of orange. Interestingly, the tannins are nowhere to be found. More balanced on the aftertaste, the acidity doesn't dominate with heat, but just provides a gentle warm undertone to the orange and aniseed finish. Wonderful length. This is a delicious, complete and thoroughly enjoyable wine to drink today. 92/100. Drunk 06-Feb-23. Decanted ½ hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
