Date format: “H:i D d M Y†

Talk about anything but keep it polite and reasonably clean.

Date format: “H:i D d M Y†

Post by jdaw1 »

I don’t like the default date formats supplied by phpBB, so use, in the required “PHP date()† format, “H:i D d M Y†, which appears as “20:51 Mon 14 Apr 2008†. Others are welcome to copy.

Edit: “G:i† is time in 24-hour format without a leading zero, “H:i† includes a leading zero, and is better. Hence this edit.

While clearly not meaningless drivel, this was meaningless to me. I understood most of the words used but totally failed to understand the meaning of the whole or how to apply the concepts therein.

I clearly need to drink more port.

Alex,

Our pedantic friend is talking about the format in which dates and times appear on TPF. This is configurable for each user.

In your profile you will find a field named Date Format. In that field you will see a string of characters. These determine the format of how dates will appear on the Forum for you. If you replace those charachters with the string G:i D d M Y the dates will appear in the format 20:51 Mon 14 Apr 2008

Alex,

To avoid confusion, Conky's emoticon is actually performing precisely the same task as is described in my earlier post. The only difference is that Conky's method is following the tried and tested approach used by British Bobbies for decades: if it doesn't do what you want, head butt it

I configured my time format on another BB, and realised that I wanted a way to find it that doesn’t require logging in to :tpf: — hence this posting readable without a password. It’s really a note to self, masquerading as being helpful to you. It’s why I put the technical part in the title.

Thank you all for your most helpful explanations. I now understand that this thread is one which can be safely ignored in the future.
