2017 Quinta do Noval LBV (Single Vineyard)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

We were invited to join a tasting organised for some visitors from the Carlton Club on the second morning of our two night stay at Noval. The tasting included this wine.

Noval 2017 single vineyard LBV, bottled unfiltered. Aged in tonnel for 1 year, selected for LBV and aged a further 4 years in tonnel. Bottled October 2022. Sealed with a long cork. (Drink over 2 weeks once opened if stored in the fridge.) Powerful blackcurrant nose, slightly astringent. Smooth texture, wonderful fruit with a hint of tannin. Nice complexity in the fruit, the fruit shows layer after layer of flavour - bramble and blackcurrant. Great acidity. Lovely chocolate and blackcurrant finish where the acidity frames the flavours beautifully. Such a long finish. This wine shows the pure class of the 2017 vintage. So much potential to age and mature. Popped and poured. 92/100. Tasted 21-Jun-23. Pop 'n' pour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
