1997 Quinta do Noval Silval

Post by nac »

Six purchased off a broking list in 2021. Bottle appeared in good condition. Good cork, easily removed. Lots of heavy sediment.

At +24 hours...

A lovely pale purple, moving towards pink hue. No browning.
Just retaining some primary cherry fruit on the nose, but also more developed notes. Definitely some mint and maybe some cedar.
Palate has an initial unwelcome harshness and the nose doesn't follow through - which is a little disappointing. Balance is there, but has a green tannin taste which unfortunately lingers.

Not bad but no better than good.

Maybe a duff bottle, but suspect not. Drink up?

I’ve had many of these, the last around 6 yrs ago. Your note is reminiscent of what I experienced.
