To record tasting notes and thoughts on fortified wines we might try which do not come from the demarcated region of the Douro Valley

1985 KWV Port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at JDAW's Cellar Reduction Dinner on 16th February 2022.

Brick red in colour, opaque at the centre with a wide rim. Gentle sweet mandarins on the nose. Smooth texture on entry, gentle tannins in softly baked fruit. Nice acidity keeping the palate and fruit fresh. Cedar and cinnamon finish of good length. Enjoyable. 85/100. drunk 16-Feb-22. Decanted 3½ hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

70% opacity, dark red-brown. Nose has figs, tobacco, molasses. Full mouthfeel, though fairly flat with medium tannin. Figs.
