A new producer for me which is located up the Pinhão River, on the East side. They are selling direct to consumers through Wine Buyers which is nice.

Very attractive clear 50cl bottle.

It describes itself as “Alta № 10”. I wonder if that means they are not aiming for much consistency between batches (and the next one might be a № 11?). Or perhaps it doesn’t signify anything beyond this being a 10YO?

Good red / pink in the middle de-saturating to orange round the edge.

Slightly subdued on the nose but strong, dried fruits.

In the mouth, a little acidity followed by thick and unctuous sugar. No real fresh fruit left and the initial taste is strangely mild. Glacé cherries, perhaps? However, this is followed by two long aftertastes: first quite fruity and then very tawny.

I keep having to remind myself that this is only 10 years old. It tastes much more like a 20 year-old and is really rather good.
