Port 1970

My father and bought 12 bottles of 1970 Dow about 10 years ago and have had them in storage since. In the last couple of years we've been taking a couple of bottles out a year for drinking at family occasions. We most recently had one in October and were discussing whether it is going to hold up long enough to work our way through all 12 bottles. I'm concerned that it might have peaked already. I'm an occasional port drinker and far from an expert but have just joined this forum to see what others would recommend we do? Keep hold and continue to drink our way through the stocks or perhaps look to sell some bottles (if i recall correctly we paid around £30 per bottle so hopefully would make some kind of a profit them)

Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

Dow 1970 is fabulous Port.

I strongly recommend continuing to slowly drink your way through the case with your father. It will last two decades or more if is has been properly stored.

Completely agree with Derek's advice above. Keep it well, and you have fabulous drinking for the next decade or two.

Thank you all for the above! The port is definitely being stored correctly with our other stuff which we have in bond.

Great to hear you think it is going to hold up for another decade, we are working our way through it at a rate of about 3 bottles a year so no problems on that side!

Thanks again for responding so quickly to my question.

Or, more mischievously, one could disagree. They are about to expire. To go off. Indeed, they are unlikely to last much longer than 11:30pm on Thursday 3rd January 2019. So bring them to the tasting.

(OK, I admit it; they might last as long as Friday 4th January. So it’s not that urgent.)
