In 1989 a company named Companhia Uniao dos Vinhos do Porto e Madeira Lda, owned by Grand Cruz, made five different vintages: Aguila, Cabraco, Calvares, Dom Joaquim and Magales. As far as I know these brands has never been used again since then. Does anybody know why?

Do you know for sure that they were five different vintage ports and not just five additional brand names used to sell the same wine as Grand Cruz 1989, which seems to have been the largest volume of VP produced by any shipper in any year at around 1,000,000 bottles

It is for sure five different labels, but it might be the same juice in all bottles. As always it is difficult to know when different labels are used by the same Port producer.

It was a frequent discussed subject some years ago on this and other forums and I have also heard it from more than one producer.
