Another splendid evening with some excellent Ports and great company. It was a pleasure to meet Simon, a man with very similar interests to many here on :tpf:

Julian stormed away with the scoring on the blind tasting with a quite magnificent 2pts from 5 bottles, which is almost unprecedented. The others in the group each scored a creditable 1pt.

Wine of the night was Dow 1970, closely followed by a very rare Noval 1950 with Vesuvio 1994 in a strong third place. The other two wines received no points, which is a disservice to one of them.

No doubt someone took tasting notes that will be posted later.

We had a splendid evening. Scanty notes were taken, and will be posted tomorrow.

Summary: D70 > N50 > V94 > Ch85 > Tesco 1994. And a good claret, about which I took no notes — not even what it was.

A wonderful introduction to TPF. A huge thank you to Julian, Derek and Tom for their company, conversation and some lovely Port. I will add my notes for the night later (Tom's Noval 50 was the highlight for me, but Derek's Dow 70 a very lovely and close second). I look forward to meeting up for another tasting and some good company again soon. I have to admit to being a bit intimidated by the knowledge displayed by TPF members and posts, but I am very glad that I took the plunge as the group were very welcoming and accepting of my inexperience. If others are reading and have been tempted to go along to a TPF meeting for the first time... I can't recommend it enough. It was an honour and a pleasure, thank you again gentlemen.
