Port in Gothenburg
It looks like I will be in Gothenburg a few times between now and Christmas. Are there some good people to contact over there with regard to drinking port? My first visit is from tomorrow until Thursday but I expect to be busy most of the time, so I'm thinking of future visits.

Re: Port in Gothenburg
I'm less than an hour away by car and would relish the opportunity to meet up in the future.
Have not yet found any port-heads but will continue my search.

Re: Port in Gothenburg
Hi djewesbury,
Nice to hear that you have found your way to Sweden. If your trips were directed to Malmoe instead of Gothenburg we would very much like to welcome you to join us and taste some port. If you are not able to come to Malmoe, I am do make some infrequent trips to Gothenburg and if you would pm me your scheduled trips I might have the opportunity to join you somewhere in Gothenburg. If you have the opportunity I would recommend the Port Wine Festival in Copenhagen Nov 2.

Re: Port in Gothenburg
Greetings Magnus, and JB, it looks like we can organise this! It will have to be Gothenburg, I don't think I'll get up to Malmö, but I'll give good notice and hopefully see you over there!

Re: Port in Gothenburg
Would any of the following dates work for a Gothenburg meeting:
10th or 11th of September
15th or 16th of October
?

Good deeds always get returned to the right people! I once hosted Glenn for dinner in Reigate on a brief trip through Gatwick. You were equally hospitable to me and desperately Derek and Julian i think in Belfast. Now it is your turn to be welcomed to a strange city!djewesbury wrote:It looks like I will be in Gothenburg a few times between now and Christmas. It is one of the things we should encourage and treasure about TPF.

Hear, hear.
(I am presuming 'desperately' was an auto-correction though it seems to apply nicely to the two gents mentioned.)

Bloody iPhone presuming it knows best! Separately. To infer you had done so more than once. (Or perhaps there is a new Apple humour function that has not been announced!)djewesbury wrote:Hear, hear.

I am unable to make the September dates but the October ones look good, ideally 16th Oct (Friday). I also asked a like-minded colleague who lives in G-burg about his interest, which was confirmed. He will ponder suitable venues as this might be a potential issue, what with Swedish regs on licensing and general steep prices for alcohol.
I hope JB is able to make it as well.

I will be able to confirm the 16th October soon, hopefully. Making another visit this week during which plans for future trips will become clearer.

Re: Port in Gothenburg
This date is now looking unlikely as we have not yet found a venue and in light of the slightly awkward regs surrounding selling/serving alcohol in Swedish restaurants/bars it is likely this process will have to involve a fair bit of searching and/or bartering.djewesbury wrote:I will be able to confirm the 16th October soon, hopefully. Would be great if we could reschedule for Daniel's next visit.

No problem. I will work out when this will be - I expect it may be early December - and maybe we can get a private room in my hotel!

Sounds good. I'm fine with both private or public. Inhibited is not a word often mentioned alongside "Swede".
