In response to popular demand, a note on tonight's Riesling, a Loosen Kabinett from Sainsbury's.
A very pale lemon yellow. A slight nose of melon and pineapple. Very light mouth, possibly too light, too soft. The lemony acid is concealed behind a soft luxuriant fruitiness (melon, pineapple again). In the finish there is a pleasant but too brief bitterness which turns into a light fruity petrol sweetness. It's a good juice but definitely designed as a Riesling not to scare the horses, with little of the characteristic Mosel minerality and structure. At 8%, you get sober while drinking it, as Ernie Loosen says.
