Good price and I need a replacement for some 97 Dows crusted that I have run through all too quickly. Keeps well too.mpij wrote:4 bottles Dow's Crusted bottled 2006. £12.50 in Asda.

Re: Latest buy
Only had it once but loved it. Bought from Berrys, I noticed that stocks were getting low and there seemed to be less around at other merchants as well. I only hope that all these ex-cellars stock are as good as the ones shipped originally.djewesbury wrote:Nicely done. A great port. Where did you get them?

Re: Latest buy
Did you buy it knowing that it was one of the 10th anniversary chestnut cabinets? I forget how many of the cabinets were made, but they are pretty rare these days and to find one with the original bottles is a good find. Nicely done.g-man wrote:Bought a vertical of vesuvio and notice my surprise when this OWC shipped with it.

I personally was shocked when the wine merchant charged me 80$ to ship an OWC.
They simply said it was heavy, only when it arrived, was I appeased.

6 x Quinta de la Rosa 2011 from JN Wines in Northern Ireland at a keen price, £39.99 DP. They have more lying in bond so another dozen might be required when funds allow.

Fun little bet on the spectator forums.
they think the dow 2011 is going to be crowned wine spectator's wine of the year due to the 99 pt rating.

Having only tasted a couple so far - am thinking about getting some Vesuvio. I have the 1994s, which might be ready in my lifetime - just, but would be interested in everyone's opinion regarding which of the other vintages they rate most highly - as well as how they compare to the 1994.

I have attended two complete Vesuvio verticals, one at the quinta in 2006 and the one linked to above in 2010. My memory of both events is that, 1989 and 1990 aside, the consistency in the quality of Vesuvio VPs is fantastic. Those first two vintages are quite different beasts due to the fact they were stored in the Douro for a period of time an have a Douro bake character. That doesn't make them bad, just different to the later vintages. Whilst I can recall tasting a small number of duff bottles of Vesuvio I can't think of a duff vintage. Fill your boots

i've enjoyed drinking the 95s as they hit the US auction blocks around 30$. I recall the 97s drinking well too but i'd pick up the 95s over
